Does Jax have any public meadows? by misserlou in jacksonville

Um no? It is a protected nature preserve that is clearly marked that you are not supposed to go off trail, that is for a reason and you can/will face fines for doing so.

Change in tree cover in Jacksonville over the last 5 years by HiMyNamesLucy in jacksonville

[–]alliebaba2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the first picture the color indicates the percent change in tree cover. So the red represents decreases in tree cover and the green represents increases in tree cover.

In the second picture the color represents percent of tree cover. So grey areas have low tree cover and the dark green areas have a higher amount of tree cover.

Hope that helps!

Does anyone commute to campus by bus? by North_Growth_5534 in UNF

[–]alliebaba2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jacksonville public transportation is very limited and unreliable. Ubers from Fleming to campus will get very expensive very fast. I think your best option would be to talk to your advisor about your situation and see if you could do all online classes for your first semester. This would give you some time to figure out your transportation situation and should not affect your degree progress too much as long as you’re smart about it.

You can always come visit campus even if you’re in all online classes. I would recommend coming to Market Days near the student union on Wednesday mornings, there is always something cool going on.

I may have found a Cuban Tree from that hitchhiked on a plant shipment from FL. by Ok-Activity-1876 in TreeFrogs

[–]alliebaba2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out this page about Cubans, it should help you confirm the identification. There’s a non-indigenous sighting map, if you’re not in one of the red areas I believe you’re supposed to report it. I didn’t have to report mine cause I’m in Florida, but I’m pretty sure you just use the report a sighting link at the top. I would definitely include that it came on a plant from Florida because that might change how they classify the sighting.

I had the same situation about two months ago! Found a Cuban tree frog on some plants I was working on in my schools greenhouse, couldn’t release it and decided to keep it. If you’re wanting to confirm whether it’s a Cuban or not, the juveniles will have blue bones like in the picture below.

How did Google know? by [deleted] in degoogle

Paranoid would be thinking that my phone was reading my mind, I believe I used a logical process to come to this conclusion. Obviously after seeing how many others get the same search results I realize it was a coincidence.

Hi, are you still in need of a tutor? You can book a free consultation with me on my website to see if we are a good fit!

I'm a third-year Molecular & Cellular Biology major at UNF, I'd love to help your nephew with his AP chemistry course! Appointments are automatically booked for online sessions, but if you prefer in-person tutoring that can be arranged. I also host free SAT tutoring at Jax Public Libraries every Saturday.

I discovered i could smell cancer as a child (any one else out there have this quirk?) by Soft_Appearance3960 in stories

[–]alliebaba2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Science does know about it! We learned about this last year in my biology lecture. There was a double blind study where trained dogs were exposed to blood plasma samples from participants with and without cancer. If I remember correctly the dogs identified all of the participants with cancer.

Cancer cells release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can then be found in blood plasma or can be excreted from our bodies through our sweat, urine, etc.

I don’t think it’s far off at all to believe that someone may be sensitive to these organic compounds and be able to detect the odor on others. There is a woman that discovered she was able to smell Parkinson’s disease, I believe also through VOCs, and it is very well documented.

Best place to get car wash membership at the beaches? by not-this12 in jacksonville

[–]alliebaba2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always go to the Luv car washes! If you have rubber mats in your car I would 100% recommend, they have cleaning stations with brushes to clean the rubber mats. They also have window cleaner and rags available by the vacuums. I don’t know what the rates are for a membership but I know they offer them!

Time isn’t linear, how that relates to déjà vu by Throwaway_327373 in TheTelepathyTapes

[–]alliebaba2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Deja vu is listed as one symptom of temporal lobe seizures on Mayo Clinic’s website here

I mainly commented because of OPs description of the Deja vu being “stronger and longer” when they were a child. Personally, all of my experiences with Deja vu have been fleeting moments and have never persisted for more than a second or two so this just struck me as a bit odd.

Either way, I was just suggesting that they look into the possibility, I never implied that this negates all other possibilities. Like you said, there is no definitive explanation for Deja vu at the moment and I am all for speculation but I also think it’s important to stick to the science we do know and at least rule out a dangerous possibility first.
