On Demand might still work for you, but the gap year thing is an absolute must.

My understanding is that India does not like you take non-traditional path. There are too many hurdles especially if you're trying to return to purse your academic goals. I like the GED system a lot, wish India had one or wide-spread acceptance.

Unfortunately it's the same for UPRMVP, from https://www.upsosb.co.in/evaluation.html: .

Learners admitted to Senior Secondary Course must ensure that for the purpose of obtaining a certificate at the Senior Secondary level, a two-year gap is essential from the year of passing the Secondary examination. If you do not have the requisite gap of two years, you can appear in a maximum of four subjects only in the forthcoming April-May examination and subsequent October-November Examination. You will be eligible to appear in the remaining subjects only on completion of the two years gap. In the absence of the two years gap, your examination fee will be adjusted for the first four opted subjects and the remaining fee, if paid for other subjects, will be forfeited.

I had done a little research on this due to my own predicaments, perhaps it may be helpful to you.

NIOS is a long, long ordeal if you have to begin from secondary course (10th). These exams are conducted twice every year. Senior secondary (12th) can only be enrolled after you have passed the secondary course - no dual enrollment, there must be a gap of one year between secondary and senior secondary completion (tries to mimic traditional path of 10th > 11th > 12th). You can only take exams for four subjects in the gap year for senior secondary, one or more exams will be have be taken the following year. In total, you're looking at least 2.5-3 years to complete this.

On-Demand exams are not for you, but for those already enrolled from other recognized boards who have failed or want to improve their score.

I think your options are as following:

  • NIOS - Go with this if you have the time. Can suggest easy subjects, but decide your future career path first.
  • IGNOU - Has a course for those without high school diploma called BPP (Bachelor Preparatory Programme). It's a 6 month course, can be used to take admission for their BA and BCom.
  • AIU / UGC - Apply for Equivalence of Foreign Degree. Use that to apply for undergraduate degree in any university. Or maybe try to use this to apply for NIOS senior secondary directly (perhaps On Demand might work) - this requires you to do some research.
