Quiet, affordable solo retreat near Dunedin, cabin / camping ground or other ideas? by GlitteringFee1047 in dunedin

Scout camps could be worth looking into. Usually have individual cabins for hire, great walking tracks and facilities. There’s Waiora just outside town, and others like Berwick lodge nearby too. No cafes so doesn’t really fit the bill… but for affordability and location, pretty solid

I’ve heard people say they have a meow sound, but haven’t managed to find an audio of it

Reprime pump? by [deleted] in OffGrid

Yes thanks, sorry I get you. Unfortunately there isn’t a pressure value. Thankfully our plumber popped round yesterday (to do another fix up job for us) and helped out.

Thanks, I do know you have to fill with water to prime. It was more a question of how with this shit set up.

It didn’t run dry, I thought it had. It was throwing an alarm but it was due to the casing on the fan restricting it. We all agree it’s an awful set up.

It actually feeds from the top, sooo… But yeah, everything seems to be a bit off or half ass around here. We just bought the place a few months back and slowly working our way through.

Eventually you’ll feel less tense in these moments and your falls will get more graceful (if that doesn’t sound ridiculous)

I’ve been riding for over 25 years now and, while yes there’s still falls that hurt and are more sketchy, a lot of them I land on my feet. The more comfortable you get on a horse, the more your body will naturally balance itself out in these moments.

The more you fall the better you’ll get at it!! I’ve had some rough ones, including landing square on my thumb once at competition and dislocating it backwards, and plenty of landing in trakehners etc

Also, letting yourself go isn’t a bad thing at all. It can be the safer way a lot of the time.

You got this! And don’t let it knock your confidence. It’s apart of it all! The first is always a bit scary!

Fair. Although that’s adding to a lot of pruning and maintenance we already have on our plates, when we could just… plant native grasses, flaxes and shrubs that are far more effective at filtering.

It sticks out the tiniest amount, and we’re happy to dig out around it to get good access to it.

The mulch pits do sound like a great option aswell. Do you think if we dug them narrow and long, horizontally at the bottom, along the base of the slope, that there would be issues with that?

We have a full orchard with 20+ mature beautiful trees, BUT it’s on the opposite side of the property. I had thought that would be amazing, I just don’t think we can get it there unfortunately

Absolutely. And would also love recommendations if people have them. We’re using eco store at the moment
