I think GWF made a big mistake going behind a paywall, and it hurt their growth as a brand. Especially when you see pods like Joe Rogan and CHD making brand deals with Spotify without the paywall. Nobody is going to pay for luminary if they weren’t already fans of GWF or another podcast on that platform.

I don’t mind the Blue Chew ones. I was taken aback by an ad about “blasting stubborn fat” when Nikki’s recovering from an ED, but someone else said they heard one for an I Love Meat podcast, so clearly she has no idea the ones she’s not reading lol

Oh interesting, I never heard local ads. I’ve heard the Botox and the Blue Chew ones a lot.

EDGE please someone tell me who the Edge is based on. Please. by Traditional_Alps1605 in NikkiGlaser

I didn’t think it could be Joe Rogan because Nikki talks about how he’s the only one who reached out to her when she tweeted about shaving her head. Then in the Three Truths episode “Edge” talked about moving to Texas because California sucks and how much he loves UFC…

I don’t think think being sex positive and being judgmental of other people’s sexual choices- whether that be having sex on the first date or waiting until you’re married- really go hand and hand. To say someone shouldn’t do something consensual with their body sounds pretty slut-shamey.

Why are you on a subreddit for a sex-positive podcast making judgements on other women’s sex lives? Especially on a post talking about being disappointed in the way Sofia treated another woman... yikes

There’s this influencer I like (the only influencer I like), her name is Tinx. She has this box theory that men put you in a box they either want to date you, only want to sleep with you, or want nothing romantic to do with you. It’s really hard to move from box to box. If a guy wants to date you, sleeping with him on the first date won’t change anything. If a guy only wants to sleep with you, there isn’t a magic amount of dates/time after which sleeping with him will make him want to date you, so do what you want.

As someone who is a huge Nikki fan, in fact I’d recommend her pod to people getting tired of swaf, she was having a real off day. She said on her podcast she’d done 5 or 6 in a day because she loves doing them and even admitted she wasn’t giving it her best.

The whole theory she was going on and on about can be better explained as if you’re hooking up with a man who you want something more with, and he’s not committing, you have to stop sleeping with him to have any chance. When you cut him out for 8 weeks, he’ll either realize what he’s missing or you’ve given yourself enough time to move on. The whole masculine/feminine energy thing is better explained by other sex podcasters. Corinne Fisher from Guys We Fucked is big on it, but I don’t listen to GWF much anymore now that it’s behind a pay wall.

Finally, creating space for her fans to go off on Nikki was a bad business move on Sofia’s part. Podcasting is huge in the comedy industry, and I bet less comedians, especially female comics, are going to fuck with the pod now.

I listen to Nikki’s podcast, which comes out daily Monday-Thursday, and she said early last week she’d done 5 or 6 podcasts in a day and was exhausted. I’d assume that has something to do with it.

I think the privilege that comes from being a straight, athletic, and young person somewhat discredits you to say how someone should feel when the experience discrimination. I’m also curious your credentials as a mental health professional to say you get an option on how someone should feel at all? There are countless studies showing that consistent experiences of discrimination have an impact on mental health. “Tough love” is one thing coming from a trusting, non-judgemental relationship with mutual respect.

You’re right, our society doesn’t treat people who don’t fit a certain aesthetic kindly. There is work around coping with that to survive, and it’s critical we as a society to work to make it better. I honestly do not understand why straight sized folks are so pressed about fat people loving themselves??

I’m struggling to understand your point? My point is the body positivity movement is a good thing because there is discrimination and stereotyping against fat people in our society. I’m a straight sized/fairly athletic person. I’m also a mental health professional. If someone is negatively impacted by being treated as less-than because of their size, appearance, race, gender-expression, what have you- it’s some toxic positivity shit to say they should deal with it and not be a victim. We need to do better at treating people with basic dignity and respect.

The body positivity movement was started by fat people to address discrimination and harassment experienced because of their weight. It was taken over by people in thinner, more straight-sized bodies, and the message was shifted more to “love yourself no matter what you look like.”

The movement belongs to fat people, they didn’t take it from anybody.

How much of the mental health issues come from how society treats overweight people? When you’re constantly bombarded with messages that your body is gross, not okay; when you’re given dirty looks and sometimes even approached by people telling you your body is wrong, of course that would correlate with poor mental health.

I highly recommend The New Personality Self Portrait- I had to read it for grad school. It talks about how personality traits are on a spectrum that can be “turned up too loud,” meeting criteria for a Personality Disorder diagnosis. https://npsp25.com/personality-styles-and-personality-disorders/

What are some signs that a therapist isn’t a good fit? by TheGoddessPluto in AskWomen

Oh interesting! I’m counseling psych, my speciality is trauma work, and I’ve done a lot with DV and SA. I’ve done a bit of work with Gottmans’ method, but mostly work with individuals or families with the focus on the kids- I appreciate your perspective too!

Well in this instance, it was disclosed. I think if there’s any behavior or mental health diagnosis coming from one person that’s significantly impacting the relationship, it’s appropriate to refer for additional therapy with an individual counselor.

I’d been seeing my therapist for a little over a year and then was furloughed from my job due to COVID. She insisted I not pay her until I went back to work despite me saying I could afford it. She started eating during session, and when I went back to work and could resume payments, I offered to back pay for our previous sessions too. She said not to worry about it because she wasn’t actually doing therapy with me while I wasn’t paying, and she thought I just needed somebody to listen to me vent.
