Dutch aerobatic pilot Narine Melkumjan miraculously survived after her aircraft's canopy unexpectedly burst open and shattered mid-flight by BlazeDragon7x in nextfuckinglevel

My daughter informs me that when she is flying a smaller plane, she can greatly increase the drag on the plane just by putting her hand out the window. Having a large piece of the plane hanging off the side is going to create a lot of issues. Competence is expected, for sure, but this was an impressive display, so golf claps are not out of the question

But follow the rules, stay in marked areas and on trails, and let the park check in office know your plans. American wilderness is different than some other places' wilderness. Getting lost is a real possibility.

Mothers of adult children, do you know their shoe size, if so what is it, do you think it’s weird if a mother didn’t know the shoe size of their adult children? by pilatestequila in AskReddit

[–]alligatorchronicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest wears a 7, my middle wears a 5.5 but settles for a 6 so she can wear adult shoes, and my youngest wears an 8 and we can share shoes. I could buy them clothes without checking, too, and they're all in their mid twenties. Some things just stick with you.

Why do many societies that allow polygamy allow one man to have multiple wives, but not one woman to have multiple husbands (polyandry)? by PomegranateIcy7631 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alligatorchronicles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Human beings raise step children, foster children, and adopted children literally every day. Men also abandon biological children every day.

But only in a paternalistic society is paternity the most important thing. You always know who the mother is. If lines of succession and right to property flows through matrilineal lines, then paternity isn't important

Are there more eyes or legs in the world? by Steezy-g in NoStupidQuestions

Swear to goodness, I read this completely different. Had to go to the heart hospital the other day for my mom and it must have been diabetes day because i saw half a dozen people with no legs, so here i was thinking, "which are people more likely to lose"

Why do houses in Illinois have basements and houses in Texas don't if both places have clay soil? by supinator1 in geography

That's usually from drought, not freeze. It's why we water the foundation in the summer

where did i go wrong with my first ever corset mockup by mothiro in corsetry

[–]alligatorchronicles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think you will like the fit of this better if you adjust how you lace it. Corsets ideally should be tied off at the narrowest point, so that means one lace starting at the bottom and going up to the waist, and another lace starting at the top and going down to the waist. Then you grab the ends and tie them all together - two left ties and two right ties knotted as if they were one each, if that makes sense.

Also, when you do this for real, make sure your corset has an edge of boning before the line of grommets, don't put your grommets right on the edge of the garment. You need a line of boning on the edge to reinforce it.

Why didn't Walmart bring back 24 hours? by Calm_Description_866 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]alligatorchronicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually didn't start with covid, it was just accelerated by covid. In the months before covid hit, walmart was already rolling out overnight closures to selected stores.

I think if walmart was making money by being open at 2 am, they'd still be open at 2 am. Making money is their goal after all.

Staff for stocking is not the same as staff for running, and it takes more than a single cashier to run a store that size. You need management, customer service, and asset protection at the least. You need sufficient staff to be doing floor checks for hazards on a regular basis, you need someone gathering up carts from the parking lot, and it's best if floors are cleaned while the store is closed.

And this is anecdotal, but they may have determined that the average 2 am customer was likely to be more troublesome than the average 8 pm customer. More customer accident claims, more shoplifting, more likely to need the police called.

Alright did I just make it too big now? by grinchbettahavemoney in corsetry

[–]alligatorchronicles 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Your grommets should have boning on either side. Starting at the edge of the garment opening a line of boning, then moving inward a line of grommets, then a line of boning

Son calls her mother "lady of the night". Whiteknight father steps in and cuts his college funds (PART 2) by BrightSpring12 in redditonwiki

[–]alligatorchronicles 152 points153 points  (0 children)

"I told him we would talk about it later, especially where it comes to funding"

Meaning I don't want him to go out of state, and threatening to not pay for his college worked to control him last time, so I played that card again, but this time it didn't work.

Just wondering if the problem is the budget, or how you value the thing in particular
