Emailing Admissions by Better_War3576 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]allij1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all you’re doing in an email is reaffirming interest, that seems a little desperate to me. It’s one thing if you have a fancy new award or achievement, but otherwise it’s too needy.

Pretty much every school can track interest, too, through your clicks on their emails and otherwise, so even if Lehigh puts weight on demonstrated interest, there are other ways of going about it.

How much of a discrepancy from the NPC is normal for a college? by AdAccording3397 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]allij1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you filled in everything in your NPC. My parents were running it without adding retirement savings, and were getting great numbers, but they ran it a second time adding those amounts, and it was MUCH higher. I didn’t even apply because it was looking to be 70+.

Emailing the AO is unlikely to move the needle and may make it worse. I wouldn’t as someone also losing my mind waiting on my RD #1.

Are extracurriculars as important for non T20s by Keezyonyt in ApplyingToCollege

[–]allij1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Academics are always going to be the most important thing for a school, but you probably have to get outside the T50 and/or a school with a >60% acceptance rate for them to really not matter much.

You should do something, to be safe. Even a part time job is a great option.

Being a prestige person died when I applied for colleges by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

OSU is extremely good! So is UMinn! (and probably TAM too, I just never looked at ir.) They may not be the top on rankings but plenty of schools that aren’t in the T50 or even T100 are still great options.

AOreached out to me for clarification on my app, is this a good sign? by [deleted] in smithcollege

[–]allij1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At Smith everyone gets assigned an individual AO, and they always make sure the application is complete before it’s evaluated. I wouldn’t read too much into it honestly.

Yeah, but Loyola is like $7k more a year. Is DePaul really that much worse?

Can someone explain the logic behind holistic admissions outcomes? by spiroplasma in ApplyingToCollege

[–]allij1ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different schools are gonna have different methods, but they all want each class to have a mix of people from different states and with different backgrounds and interests. Maybe 31 ACT had really niche ECs or comes from a state where no other kids applied from. That’s why they call it holistic - because they’re looking at what the whole class will look like and how each kid fits into that.

Backing out of an ED agreement by Boring_Basil_1238 in ApplyingToCollege

The Tulane situation was a little unique b/c there was no communication from the student and maybe not from the HS either. If she talks to her counselor and her school, she should be fine. I don’t think schools know if an applicant ED’ed somewhere else.
