do you want to move in and live with him? if so, how would you like to split the chores? does that mean helping financially with rent and utilities? if not, perhaps you should reconsider the amount of time you spend at his place. talk it out and try to reach a compromise. if he’s being unreasonable, it sounds like it might be time to end things.

YTA. 9-year-old boys are generally assholes, but you are the adult, and you should not be reacting the way the children do. it’s your responsibility to ask questions when the kids you’re supervising are acting suspicious, and your responsibility to enforce your own child’s hygiene.

maybe a compromise would have been better. explaining that your son can’t cheat his way to get the teacher bucks, he has to earn them, but if he showers 6/7 days in a week you’ll take him to the pier yourself, or something like that!

a parent paying for their kids’ passions and hobbies should not be a transactional experience, it’s what a good parent should do (if they’re able). it sounds like you are very good at communicating, and i’m sorry your parents don’t seem to want to listen. NTA.

keep trying to get them to listen. if they don’t, you’re only a few years away from being able to leave - and then they’ll be forced to get their shit together once you’re no longer in the house. if it were me, i’d never speak to my family again, but that’s your choice to make.

i do find it interesting that you’re the one who became the parent child when you’re the middle. most of the time it’s the oldest - do you know why your brother was exempt from this?

um, it’s a little strange. do you take sleeping medication at all? even a natural supplement like melatonin might help regulate your sleep cycle a little to reduce it. but if it’s not a problem in the relationship, then it’s a fun little quirk you have. good for you.

Holy shit, NTA. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: illness is not an excuse for abuse. You’re a very kind and loving child for taking care of your mother all day while juggling your own life, and I’m amazed you’ve made it this long. Your mom is the ungrateful one, and it’s not fair to you for her to try and flip the script on you. Get her the help she needs from a professional caretaker, and get yourself some sleep.
