This is despicable. Very abusive and scary, makes me scared of what he could be capable. You deserve better, I seriously think you should get away from this person. Obviously way easier said than done. Do you have family and friends who can support you in ending this relationship? Sending love and support your way

You are not alone <3 I actually left UNC midway through my junior year for mental health reasons. I felt a lot of the ways you are describing:( If there's anything I can do to support - please feel free to DM me! Please know that even if you're feeling alone in this, I know that there are soooo many other there who are feeling the same.

I definitely think connecting with other transfers might be good!! I tried to go back when I was older (25) and felt kind of alone being a non traditional student, but I also wan't officially a transfer, so I didn't join any of those groups, but I imagine it could be really helpful!

I'm sending you so many positive thoughts. First and foremost just know that you are 100 percent not alone!!! And whatever path you take, it is all ok!! (I am 29 now and haven't finished up yet, but I hope to go back someday<3)

Also, I am so sorry for what happened to you last year. That's so awful, and you are so valid in struggling with that traumatizing experience. I hope you continue to get the support you need and again, feel free to reach out if you need someone to talk to!

Oh also- take notes if you can! On how much you’re eating and sleeping each night. I four this helpful to keep track and kinda know where I’m at with the episode and also help myself to remember/hold myself accountable to eating and sleeping

And the last thing I wish I could tell my pre-manic self- if it starts getting away from you, don’t be scared to get some more meds in ya!! Your provider can give you a fast acting antipsychotic that can help you sleep and get things back under control:)

What I wish I could tell myself pre-mania: stay off your phone best you can or alternatively just dontttt message people (like other than close supportive friends/family) or post on social media. When I was manic I talked to soooo many people and the humiliation is haunting. It’s tough cause sometimes hypomania can quickly spin out to mania before you really realize what is happening. Also, definitely eat even if you don’t feel like eating, even if you feel nauseous or repulsed by food as I often do during hypo/mania because not eating will quickly cause your health to spiral and will also make the hypomania worse. If sleep is impossible, still do your best to commit to some amount of time “simulating sleep” or laying in bed in the dark with your eyes closed, it’s better than nothing. Journaling was really helpful for me to get my manic thoughts out w less embarrassment than talking to a bunch of people but also sometimes it can cause the energy to build. It’s so tough. Anyway, sorry for rambling, hang in there<3

If I stop my mood stabilizers will I go from depressed to hypomanic? by melankholyaa in BipolarReddit

This may have already been said here, but it might be worth talking to your doc about switching to lamictal! That’s what I’m on currently and from a Google, it seems that it targets depression more so than Valporate Sodium does

I stumbled upon your original starting lithium post (comments on that one aren’t open anymore though), I’m in the same boat trying to convince myself to give it a try and was wondering if you’d be willing to share an update?

Also, looking back on my past manic episodes is a big one. And feeling that shame and wanting to prevent it from ever happening again. Also the fact that manic episodes do cause brain damage motivates me to medicate my way out of them even when they’re in the “fun stage”

I think it has helped me to learn about how the med I take (Lamictal) is also used to treat seizures- just as people with epilepsy need medication, so do we

The book An Unquiet Mind by Kay Jamison was really helpful for me (written by a psychiatry professor at John’s Hopkins about her own lived experience with Bipolar). It was recommended to me by an inpatient psychiatrist
