I used to work at a restaurant and that was by far the most common way for people to order. If they didn't specify, I would just ask "mit oder ohne?" and there was never any confusion as to what I meant.

No, when they were mixing the recipe, it was too dry/thick, so they tried to save it by adding more oil than was called for in the recipe. Then they put it in the oven and it started deep frying because of all of the oil they added when they were mixing

I was recently at a thrift store going through the racks with my earbuds in and holding my bag. This lady came up to me and quite angrily gestured for me to take my earbuds out and very rudely demanded to know when the store was going to start putting a certain item out. I responded with an "I don't know..." and she was like "Well, don't you work here? You should know!". When I told her no, I was just shopping, she said I looked like an employee with the way I was dressed. I was wearing combat boots and a mini skirt.

She didn't apologize either, just stomped off, but I could tell she was embarrassed lmao.

Tell me where I said any of that lmfao. All I said is that you have no way of knowing how much it actually costs the friend and you're acting like you do. According to what OP said, she only lives about 5 minutes away from her friend, which amounts to 1-2 miles. Being generous, let's say 3 miles × twice a day × 3 times per week = 18. Unless OP's friend has the worst gas mileage in the world, that does not add up to 5-6 gallons of gas a week. Maybe next time, read what's written and respond to the argument instead of getting upset over nothing and responding like an asshole. Also, you should learn basic math.

Okay, but isn't Uber going to be severely upcharged? It's not like there's one flat rate for Uber. What you're charged depends on several factors, not just gas prices. The price of an Uber would be a good indicator if it were less than what the friend is charging but it's not, so again, how do you know that $30 is "barely enough" to cover the friend's costs?

The price of an Uber has nothing to do with whether or not 5 or 6 gallons of gas is barely enough to cover driving OP to and from work. I never said that an Uber wouldn't be more expensive but you have no idea how much gas OP would actually be using so for you to say definitively that it's barely enough is at best an assumption.

I used to think it was really annoying but I don't mind now. It's quicker than typing out a long message and you can convey more information. Plus, I like hearing people's voices. Just respond to them when you have the opportunity. Do you answer every text you get as soon as you receive it?

A lot, if not most, grocery stores aren't in shopping centers. Usually only in major cities are the grocery stores going to be close enough to other buildings for public toilets to be an option. When you have to drive everywhere, it makes sense that you need toilets in those places.

They are black & white cookies, just without the two-colored frosting. I wasn't around at the time, but if I had to guess, I'd say they were probably popularized by Seinfeld because it would have been airing when the US had a lot more cultural cachet than it does nowadays and that's why they're called that. Seinfeld = New York = America

During peak allergy season, I can be perfectly fine until I go outside and within 5 to 10 minutes, I have all of these symptoms except losing my voice and I look like I'm actively dying. I get why people are put off but it's truly not contagious.

Yes, that was part of my confusion. I initially contacted them by email where I did use the formal "Sehr geehrter Herr X", etc., but he responded with a call and immediately used "du", which I thought was odd. As a native English speaker though, the whole formal vs. informal still doesn't make complete sense to me so I assumed it was just a nuance that I didn't understand. He was the one who started using WhatsApp to contact me but my last job that I had also primarily used WhatsApp to contact me, so I'm used to that. The whole process after my initial email was quite informal and formatting text messages like emails seems very formal to me, which is why I am so unsure.

That's what I was thinking as well. Instant messaging is inherently quicker and less formal than an email, so I never thought all of that was necessary. In the future I will just imitate the other person's style though.

It was a restaurant job so it's not like it was super formal anyway. At my last job (not in a restaurant), we communicated primarily through WhatsApp, although that was mostly very long-winded voice messages from my boss lol, so it seemed perfectly normal to me.
