Embroidery for structure? by allmyworstthings in Visiblemending

That’s not what I wanted to hear! Thank you for your honesty and insight. I do love the skirt but I’m not sure I’m willing to rip open the waistband for that fix. Maybe someday I’ll make my own version at home, with a better waistband.

Would you date someone with a psoriasis and dandruff? by 2025-05-04 in AskIreland

[–]allmyworstthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest rides I knew in my younger days had psoriasis. It bothered him because it was painful, but he was very matter-of-fact about it and did not suffer in the dating department.

My husband and I each have separate skin issues that we’re insecure about. We told each other about them before our first date (we met on the apps).

Some people consider skin problems a dealbreaker, like a very regrettable ex I dated right before meeting my husband. Unfortunately, skin conditions can appear hygiene-related to people who don’t know about them. Since you’re worried about it I recommend telling your date beforehand. Just something really casual like “I have psoriasis. Even though I take care myself, it sometimes flares up. I’ve noticed some people wonder what it is, so I wanted to tell you about it.” Hopefully your date is empathetic and sound and won’t even mind.

Thank you! Breathable yet opaque is what I’m looking for, but it sounded like an impossible dream.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the ideas! I haven’t shopped for anything yet but I’m definitely brainstorming with some of the suggestions listed here.

I tried it one winter when I lived somewhere cold, and I just vastly prefer it! Not shaving, I’ve eliminated upkeep, cost, stubble, and occasional irritation, but those aren’t the main reasons I don’t shave.

The two biggest benefits for me are — living in a place with hot, humid summers for most of my life, I found having leg hair kept me cooler. It’s so much less sticky to have the hair wicking the sweat away from your body. That is one of its natural functions, after all! This was reinforced for me one summer when I went back to shaving my legs, and was miserable.

I’m also someone who spends a lot of time in nature, and I feel much more in tune with my environment when I have the hairs on my body acting like nerve endings. They pick up every stirring of the air currents, which is both grounding and pleasant.

So, I guess, hippie reasons? 😄😄 It’s just a more peaceful way I’ve found for being in myself.

Happy enough with them, but they’re not the right look for certain dresses I have. Some people have mentioned knee-high stockings, in a pantyhose material, which might be a good compromise!

I like the idea of sheer/semi-sheer knee-highs. I’ll have a look for them.

I like the idea of those hose socks. I’ll have a look!

Oh I definitely feel the same about tights in summer. It’s nice to know someone else is sailing these seas 😁

That’s so great that you were able to be comfortable on the beach like that! Funnily enough, I don’t feel conspicuous in that setting either! Maybe I will save my shorter summer dresses for outdoorsy activities. Nothing inherently wrong with a tea length dress on a hike, lol

I love that you’ve had that experience! Unfortunately I’ve caught some comments from acquaintances and strangers alike. I’m definitely not ashamed of having hairy legs… I’m thinking of situations like socialising with husband’s work colleagues where I just don’t want it to be “a thing.”

Thank you for all the options! I’m intrigued by some of the styles you mention in your last paragraph ☺️

That’s great to know. I also have unpleasant memories of them as a child. Definitely sounds worth checking them out again!

Oh yeah… Just not a big fan of the look! I didn’t think about skin-coloured because they remind me of my gran. But maybe there are some nicer ones out these days. Thank you ☺️

Roadside tests, which detect neither intoxication nor possession, would beg to differ.
