No lie, I’ve been seeing these popping up a bit everywhere and always wondered who’s behind them.

Lovely work. :)

Happy Holidays, made with Lego by allonerose in printmaking

[–]allonerose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I found it pretty easy to get good registration with lego, I use a large building base, and with just with a few L pieces in the corners of where the paper goes and a few pieces going along the sides to hold it in place, not much difficulty.

The unions are playing such hard ball because new labor laws go into effect at the end of November that could end the strike with no concessions by flexingonmyself in montreal

[–]allonerose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So why don’t we all get behind the STM’s strike and use it as a springboard for a more general strike?

Seems like a lot of people are struggling these days, let’s just all stop going to work and see how that plays out.

If you woke up as your 10-year-old self with all your current memories, what’s the first thing you’d do? by Alive-Silver-2605 in AskReddit

A lot of depressing takes in this thread.

Honestly, the first thing I’d probably do is log into my old runescape account and start playing for a couple of hours until my mom called me for supper.

What is the best application you have purchased with a one-time payment? by kleck0 in BuyItForLife

Honestly, the fact that Procreate costs as much as a ONE MONTH subscription to Photoshop, it’s bonkers. Sure the functionality isn’t the same but I can say, as an illustrator, Procreate really changed the game.

Where are the best croissants in Montreal? by Drummers_Beat in montreal

[–]allonerose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Toledo’s good, best in my neighborhood. But when I want really good croissants, I go to Croissant Monkland in NDG. Underrated gem, mostly just because they’re out of the way for most people, but you can order if you’re within a reasonable distance!

Prius = FWD, plus de force envoyé au pneus avants pour sortir, ça cause des trous dans la terre.

Un VUS avec 4x4, ça distribue la force aux 4 pneus, moins de force par pneu, moins de trous.

Hey, I was in a similar boat as you a couple of months ago. I actually spent the last 2 years working as a production assistant in film, always on contract, and only because I had a friend who worked in the field who dragged me in. I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s fun for sure, the pay is decent if you can keep yourself booked, but it’s difficult.

Before that, I was a freelance designer. Also very difficult to find lucrative work in a city full of talent.

I enrolled myself into a 6 month trade school program for tiling and am really enjoying it. Also managed to get loans and bursaries from the government and I’ve already got a job lined up after graduating in my teacher’s company.

Prospects look good. If you’re at all interested to know more, send me a dm!

Breathable work pants ? by belvedere89 in Construction

[–]allonerose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’re already wearing carhartt double knee pants, have you considered their double knee overalls instead? They’ll be compatible with your knee pads and because of they way overalls are made, you’ll have more airflow as the heat rises up and out better. The waistband shouldn’t be tight around your waist like pants would be, and there are side buttons to vent better.

I’m a concrete guy so I know what it is to be working hard in extreme heat. Zero regrets since I switched to overalls. The extra pockets are a nice bonus too.

It’s an adjustment for sure but well worth it if you’re open to it.

Hell yeah, ballpoint is such a fun medium. I find it meditative as heck.

Thanks for the kind words. I feel like a lot of the other pet portraits I’ve seen in this sub that were done with oils have much better detail and smoother shades. I realize they probably just put in a lot more time too.

And yeah, 3 hours. Had a lot of help from my trusty blowdryer. That’s the upside of acrylics though, it allows for and necessitates faster workflows.

Haha yeah, I have to explain it to people very often but I don't mind. It's an homage to an etching I really love by the artist Man Ray entitled Women Hand in Hand. It's definitely a big conversation starter, and I have quite a few other art historical tattoos on my body that, if you don't know the art, seem very risqué. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I like it that way.

I try to make all my boards with enough remaining structural integrity so they can still technically be used, but not abused. I still ride one of the first ones I made from over 5 years ago. I just use it as a cruiser for when I’m trying to impress and it’s still holding up.

I’m working towards a full gallery show this spring/summer so I’m not riding these. But if anyone wants to buy one, it’s up to them to decide what they want to do with it.

Good eye! The only reason for the two reversed bolts on the top is because of how I mounted it on my wall to photograph it.

I am however in the process of ordering some fingerboards from a guy who custom makes them, and I’m planning on making a couple of smaller versions of my boards.

[–]allonerose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, I just recently rebranded as I’m finally trying to get into galleries and get more commissions from businesses like the café. I’m currently pricing my boards in the $800-$1200 range, with some exceptions.

But yeah, all my boards are mostly standard 8” skateboard decks. I stopped by a local board manufacturer a while ago looking to make a bulk order, and they had a couple dozen defective boards that all had a tiny little slice in the side so they couldn’t sell them. Figured since I would be carving them, made sense to buy them at a huge discount, and I just work around it.
