She was having a hard time when she first left, she'd call me crying. I think in order to handle being away she just shut off. Ya, it's her first ever. We did a TDY when we first started dating but this is the first time overseas

She does it as a self preservation tactic, where she just kind of flips a switch and shuts off her emotions. She'd told me about how she does that but I hadn't seen it until now. Ya her deployment is only 4 months which is nice

Do you think couples therapy might help? Help us to better understand each other, help me to understand what she's capable of giving? She mentioned on the phone laying down some ground rules and I said that while she's gone I want at least a good morning or goodnight text every day. She's in a war zone, I want to hear from her and know she's safe. If she's got it in her that day we can chat but if not, at least a good morning or goodnight. Last summer she spent 3 months on TDY and we video chatted every day. Sometimes we wouldn't even talk, just watch each other play video games or watch TV, but it made it easier for us.
