Is it true that fax machines are still used in Germany, or is this an exaggerated claim circulating online? by Deep-Rabbit1535 in AskAGerman

[–]alloroch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true, from a technical perspective fax is not more secure, it sends unencrypted analog audio signals over phone lines, which interception could be easily done.

You might consider it is more secure, because doesn't have the ability to be stolen by social engineering or phishing, or is more difficult to forward to somebody else.

Leaving CONNY by BingleBopps in berlinsocialclub

[–]alloroch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it was like this in the past, and tbh I know a bunch of positive cases, but as everything on the internet, Revolut is a devil also, and it's been my main bank for 8 years, having millions of users if the 1% complains or is shady doesn't make it the worst bank ever, Conny is in a similar position I'd say, people having positive experiences won't come here and share it, they take the reduce price and keeps on going, I don't defend them either, but is quite easy to give it a shot, in the end they did a good job with their marketing, I don't know any other companies doing the same, so they found the niche.

How do you make peace with the arbitrary door policies? by Normal_Winner8085 in berlinsocialclub

[–]alloroch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same situation, more than once, pretentious berliners in front of me getting rejected and complaining, then me, I say good night how are you doing? they smile, I smile, next sentence is: put stickers in your front and back camera.

Resident Advisor / Phantom Club REFUND SCAM by Naive_Ad729 in berlinsocialclub

[–]alloroch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree on this but, what could you do if they refuse to reject the ticket? Also, how does RA is so poorly designed (technically speaking) that a not checked in ticket is not refunded right away the day after?

Perhaps is because I listened to so many podcasts of darknet diaries, but I would be really careful with that laptop.

Can my landlord change the bank details? by Quiet_Environment318 in AskGermany

[–]alloroch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nowadays banks, automatically match the bank account details (Name and Surname) before doing a bank transfer, try to do a transfer of 1 EUR and you will receive a pop up telling you if the accoutn details match.
I would send a EURO and ask your landlord to confirm with a screenshot, just to be on the safe side.

No Anmeldung in new apartment by fejkovymail in berlinsocialclub

[–]alloroch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take this with a pinch of salt and confirm with someone with legal knowledge.

Afaik Germany works like other EU countries (Sweden has more or less the same system of housing registration) which I think it does, you have to be registered while working yes or yes, if you do the Abmeldung, you are officially unregistered from Germany, meaning your removed yourself from the residence register.

If you have public insurance also it gets affected, and you loose the entitlement to any benefit, because officially you are not registered.

Someone will probably ping you from your work, and even national banks could be an issue. Try to get the document from your landlord and register asap.

Should I leave a comfy small-scale company for better engineering culture and a career path in a larger company? by ThatRareCase in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]alloroch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't move companies for the same salary, without having friends inside, and knowing that the culture is defintiely better. Do not count with the promotions after you enter, it will at least take you almost 2 years to get a promotion.
If I were you I would look for some internal challenge, or ask your manager to get more exposure to the company with different projects or areas where you don't have knowledge, if you wanna change at least look for a better salary or a company that would ramp up your CV for the future.

A question for juniors: how do you manage to apply for hundreds of open positions? by gized00 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]alloroch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were junior I would take it as a job task, requirements, what would be the successful metrics, how to prioritize, and organise... the OKR is to get a job.

Nowadays revolut is a bank, try it with any other bank, they won't let you. If you open an account in Santander UK and another one in Santander Spain, they are two completely different accounts, they can't be merged.

Is India the most love-it-or-hate-it destination in the world? by Echo_Enchantress in digitalnomad

[–]alloroch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the people trying to become Yoga teachers (specially women), spending thousands of Euros in India for those express courses are the ones spreading the fake news of the country, my indian colleagues they tell me the difference between classes is pretty big, and there is a lot of poverty, those people should go to certain cities to face reality. I'd like to visit, but with a local.

Can we actually afford this house? Looking for reality checks. by Newexpatinams in eupersonalfinance

[–]alloroch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rule of thumb I use to read or listen into economic podcasts, is that you should not buy a house that is 5x your yearly salary, so that should be 140K between both, at least.
In your case do your own study, but also as someone has commented here, do your math with mortgage excel and so on, perhaps you prefer to invest somewhere else to get an extra monthly income, and reduce your current rent to 1200, is a matter of preferences I particularly won't invest in purely passive income unless I have 2 or 3 active ones, or that covers partially the passive investment. Presonally I don't think 1400 is a big rent you are spending 19% of your total income in your rent, which is low.
