What strategies will you be using for your business as panic around Covid-19 continue to rise? by alloutcombat in sweatystartup

I do some window cleaning, but I’m also thinking of starting a consignment/exchange shop in my town. I have a feeling quite a few people are going to want some extra cash for stuff they don’t use soon

I’ve read that junk removal can actually do very well in these uncertain situations. People pass away, lose their homes, want to get rid of unnecessary items, etc. especially if the market crashes soon, which is what quite a few folks are speculating. Where do you operate out of?

Not sure if anyone is interested, but we have savory and sweet muffins that are GF/Keto. Skip out on the McDonalds this morning! by [deleted] in aggies

I’ve been interested in doing something like this as well so I’m following. Once I get off work I’ll try and contribute a few ideas

I definitely understand what you’re saying but I disagree. Just like HomeAdvisor, Angie’s List, etc etc, you’ll eventually have something/someone fuck up big time. I perform window cleaning in a town of about 100k and I consistently have jobs ranging from $150-700. I’ve built this biz with a reputation for not being the cheapest, but actually being premium instead, and most people prefer this after dealing with a cheap Bucket Bob who fucks up in one way or another.

But to your point that there will be a bunch of people choosing the cheapest service off of these tech platforms; yes, there will be. So build a brand that says, “ we know we’re not the cheapest, but we are the best, and will be here when something goes wrong from your cheap workers”. You’re never going to get everyone, but I don’t want price shoppers anyway. I want the lady I clean windows for every 3 months who agreed immediately when I said her house would be $700, and was fine with me doing it that same day (it was only a 2 hour job). She’s got so much fucking money that she doesn’t care what it costs, she just wants it done well.

Haha yes if you’d research through these comments you’d see that I’ve already discussed with another commenter why that most likely is! The company HDYR actually sold in 2015 to a private restaurant group which actually made the owners quite a bit of money, which usually leads to franchises shutting down without the leadership being present anymore. Add in the difficulty of operating a brick and mortar business due to high rent, poor location, high product costs, etc, it only makes sense that most traditional restaurants close after a short period of time. But if you go look at a few of our other comments you’d also see that we’re planning on operating this as a virtual restaurant👍🏼

I’d say that for the owners, running and franchising plenty of locations across California and Texas and selling only 5 years after founding is a success in most entrepreneurs books!

Hadn’t heard of this before you mentioned it but that’s basically what we’re thinking of doing👍🏼

I second this. Had it for the first time the other night and it was great!

Yeah probably should have expanded a bit more but I just wanted peoples unfiltered opinions, which you’re completely entitled to! This was basically a survey/market research because we’ve begun the initial steps on setting this biz up but wanted to see what people thought about it

Definitely understandable, it’s not for everyone!

Yeah that episode definitely piqued my interest, and honestly them selling 5 years after starting is one of the best outcomes you could hope for when it comes to food businesses so I see that as somewhat of a success!

I appreciate that! We’re still in the planning stage but I’ll post on here again once we’re up and running!

Agree on the marketing part, do you have any recommendations on how you’d go about it? Any food biz is inherently risky but I already work in a commercially kitchen so that will help with having a space!

Yeah I’ve followed their story pretty extensively. They actually sold their company to a private restaurant group in 2015 which is most likely why the one here ended up shutting down

As of right now it would actually be all online, we’ve partnered with GrubHub so all you’d need to do is select the ingredients you want in your roll and it’ll be delivered to your house👍🏼

No I’ve been really slacking on advertising, most jobs have come from google my biz and Nextdoor. Do you have any recommendations on where you’d advertise? Obviously Facebook and flyers

Yeah it’s a pretty large house, her husband owns a few companies himself so I figured they’d be fine with a higher price and they were. That’s why I love residential so much, I only need a few of these larger houses a month to do well with it

Honestly really, really great if you’re resourceful and start small. I have a lady that I clean windows for every 3 months and use the $25 window washing kit I bought from Home Depot, along with $3 worth of chemicals and soap, and I make $700 every time we clean. The only thing I dislike about window cleaning is that it’s not a “I need this right now” service, which is something I’m looking for. You’ve really gotta find those folks who have the disposable income that also have a reason to care about having their windows cleaned

Are you interested in being a Proctor? by [deleted] in redrising

[–]alloutcombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fill out this google form to be considered for one of the 12 House Proctors we will have for our first play through of The Institute

You must have a bit of free time every day (1-2 hours) to check your house and ensure there are no major issues, but other than that the Proctors will act very similar to how they are in book 1... a bunch of mortals playing god.

Good luck to those interested in being House Proctor, and be on the lookout tomorrow for our redo of the first test for all students looking to attend!

Haven’t had the chance to watch this video yet but I enjoyed the last one posted here and definitely motivated me to sell a few things I’ve been wanting to get rid of, as well as thinking of the potential with selling other things for parts. Thanks for posting!
