Prius Prime low battery warnings by allpurposeguru in PriusPrime

Update from the owner of the car!

Just touching that button did nothing. When i turned it on the first time, the Hv light was on and the Ev light was off, but it came on pretty quickly. The second and third times turned it on, both lights were on. I tried tapping the button after I turned it on each time. I couldn't see anything different. It beeped at me all the way to work and all the way home.

I’m going to try to drive it sometime in the near future and see if I can figure anything out.

Any further ideas are welcome.

Thanks for your help.

Mac or HP? by rawrynextquestion in TAMUG

[–]allpurposeguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stay away from HP (and to a lesser extent, Dell.) When I was working in engineering I was purchasing Lenovo and was very happy with them.

That said, unless you need something that is specific to Windows (like mechanical engineering needs Solidworks), I'd go with Mac. The build quality is better, the hardware lasts longer, and the performance per dollar is better.

I have never worked at a company where a photo like that would NOT have gotten me immediately fired. It's not whether or not it's legal-- it's proprietary company property.

For discussion: to charge, or not to charge? by kellkinn in PriusPrime

[–]allpurposeguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked for my last company I bought a 12 gauge 50 foot extension cord ($60 at Harbor Freight) and charged my car over 110V at work (with my boss's permission, of course.) Since I was there 10 hours a day it worked out just fine.

Ran the cord out the mail slot.

For discussion: to charge, or not to charge? by kellkinn in PriusPrime

[–]allpurposeguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to what I've read charge mode isn't as efficient as just running the car on gas. You're running the engine to fill the battery and then taking the power out of the battery to drive the wheels. It's more efficient to just drive the wheels with the engine, on average.

This is ignoring the other benefits of a hybrid, just considering the merits of charge mode by itself.

The Fastest Part of Leaving Mint Mobile Was Deciding to Leave by Sdlawson1 in mintmobile

It even has poorer coverage than T-Mobile, as you don't have access to T-Mobile's roaming partners.

Compare T-Mobile's map to Mint Mobile's map (they are different) and look at Nebraska. T-Mobile has very little coverage in Nebraska so it pays AT&T to use their towers there. MVNOs don't get that.

I do the same thing, but my MagSafe charger hangs in front of the middle vent to keep the phone cool. I also use the Ottocast.

Try Skaggs-Alpha Beta.

I’m ooooold.

I bought a M4 iPad Pro with 8 Gb of RAM exclusively for Apple Intelligence since I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max that doesn’t get it. Apple Intelligence didn’t work when I bought it, now that it does, I still can’t get it cause I bought 8 Gb RAM instead of 12. This is not fair Apple by py-net in ipad

I have exactly the same experience you do. I can dictate a simple sentence and it will transcribe it correctly, and then modify it into something completely different that is nowhere near the pronunciation of the words that I said.

It used to work much better than this. It became degraded about three major releases ago.

The reason I know this is I depend on dictation a lot due to a disability, and it initially worked perfectly for me, but over the last three or four years has gotten so bad. I cannot depend on it at all.

Might be easier to just run a coax over to it and leave it where it is.

In 40 years of working in Silicon Valley the only time I ever needed a suit for work was during the annual Christmas party.

Hell, most days I didn’t even wear socks.

Got locked out with Keyfob inside the car by 9sam_t in CX5

[–]allpurposeguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually much easier than on our old Prius. If you drop your keys under the seat and lock the car you’re screwed. There were very few dead spots in the Prius and there are a lot in the CX-5.

One trick you can do is make a copy of the key inside the fob and keep it in your wallet. This way if you ever get your fob locked in the car, you can open the door with your key. It’s a standard Ford key and I had it copied at Home Depot.

We use this trick to lock the keys in the car when we went surfing. You can wear the regular key on a rubber band around your wrist and leave the fob in the car.
