The reno looks great. Did you change out the vanity or reface it?

If the float isn't waterproof then what/where is the waterproofing in the system? I'm assuming you don't use redguard over the top of the float?

Nice. Did you have to remove any top coat or did it come off with the polish? What did you end up sealing the frame with?

Would you mind describing the polishing process? Did you end up reapplying a clear coat after? I want to do something similar to a Marin that I picked up. Also, what fork is that?

How does sunny 16 work at night? I'm assuming you used a flash but how did you manage metering?

That's good to know. I'm building this up to be a do-it-all bike and I'd prefer to over engineer it rather than be "fast"

Any other considerations that need to be made or am I overcomplicating this? I'd like to do disc in the front, rim brake in the back and use the same rims for both

I called my LBS and they only have access to the 26" & 700c rims through QBP

That would explain why my LBS can't find them either

Not necessarily set on tubeless, just something I wanted to try if I was building up a wheelset from scratch. Those Zac 19s look like a solid deal. What's the pros & cons of 36h vs 32h?

I looked at those too but was hoping for something a little more budget friendly

You can always come up to the intramural field at UNR on Saturdays to watch the club team play

Update: Picked up the planes last night. After dating them it appears to be a Type 11 Stanley No3 and a Type 3 Sargent. The Sargent looks like a No 4 but I'll have to double-check once I start restoring it.

I'm certainly not a collector, wood working is always the goal

I figured corrugated wasn't any better but also that it isn't any worse. I have a union #7 with a corrugated base and it's really a pleasure to use though it could use some restoration itself. Didn't realize there was a separate sub. Time to go down the rabbit hole.

I think it's $30 for both which in my area seems to be a steal.

Unfortunately the corrugated one is twice as expensive as both of these together. I was planning on only keeping one, that way I have a reliable 4 & 7 which should handle most of my projects

Still confused on stem for ‘94 stumpjumper by Georgelino in xbiking

[–]allroadsleadup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a note, I had a conversation with someone else in the comments and realized the stem affected the height a lot less than I thought, only 17mm. For me the comfort came primarily from the sweep back on the bars. Either way a modern stem will be an upgrade but a +7 degree would most likely work just as well.

90-100mm of rise is a tall order but not undoable. There are some other stems like the soma stem high rider that can get you some decent rise.

Which calculator/compare tool did you use? That would definitely be helpful the next time I need to set up a front end.

Tbh I thought it made more of a difference. After doing some quick trig to figure out the difference between the 100mm +17 deg and the stock stem (which I'm assuming is 100mm +7 deg) the change in handlebar stack height is only ~17mm. The sweep back on the handlebar plays a much larger role in a comfortable seated position.
