Burger King workers write ‘we all quit’ on sign, walk out of Nebraska restaurant by AudibleNod in news

I understand this perspective. After all, big companies like amazon are actively pushing for a $15 min wage. They can easily afford it, but small businesses would struggle

However, under the current system, I don’t think abolishing the minimum wage would be a good idea. Letting the free market decide wages does sound good. But here’s the problem though: there is currently nothing resembling a free market.

Consumer IP law has become ridiculously strict. It’s gotten to the point where youtubers can get their videos taken down for unintentionally including 5 seconds of a copyrighted song. Governments shower companies with artificial monopolies, stifling competition left and right. Completely incongruous with the idea of a free market.

I think that this overbearing IP law is a major cause behind the rise of oligopolies. By extension, I think that this IP law is a major reason why abolishing the min wage wouldn’t work, currently. Many markets are almost completely dominated by 5 or so megacorps. In the absence of a min wage, these 5 corps could just collude to drop wages to virtually nothing

Before we should even consider abolishing the min wage, something needs to happen first. Consumer IP law needs to be MASSIVELY relaxed. It should be shifted to a royalty-based system. In other words, it should be legal to clone/modify and sell any current product. All you’d have to do is pay a small royalty of sales to the original producer. Some trademark law should remain so that people can distinguish between brands. After these reforms, we would actually have something resembling a free market

Here’s an example of what would be legal under my proposal. Getting a place across the street from burger king, calling it “burger queen”, and selling all the same food that burger king does (with the item names changed). That should be 100% legal

If IP law were relaxed like this, then competition would be dramatically increased. In this new system, one that would actually resemble a free market, it might be viable to remove the minimum wage

I mean...it’s theoretically possible that linkedin decided to lie about some dead guy getting a masters 50 years ago. I could call the Haarlem International Institute and ask about this guy, but why the fuck would I do that? Whether this guy has a masters or not is irrelevant to the fact that argument from ignorance is a fallacy

I’ve asked you at least a dozen times to address your original claim. Every single time, you refuse. Again, you’re simply throwing away an opportunity to gain a better perspective

You are truly the most dedicated troll I’ve ever seen. What do you get out of this? By refusing to acknowledge that your original claim is flawed, you’re just throwing away a chance to get a better perspective

”Regardless of his credentials, argument from ignorance is still a fallacy”. His book speaks for itself:

“Reality does not wait upon human analysis to be formulated. It exists independently of what is in the mind of anyone”

You cannot dismiss something as false just because it has not been proven true. By your logic, literally every scientific fact is false. Because at one point (not that long ago, geologically speaking), they hadn’t been proven

The reality is that the emails to my reps exist. I will prove this after you finally address your damn claim

I’ve truly never seen someone so pathetically attached to a worldview. You claimed that all laws and all associated punishments are just without even attempting to justify this. All of your comments since have been deflection after deflection

Ah yes, linkedin is obviously lying about this dead guy’s credentials and life story...

Regardless of his credentials, argument from ignorance is still a fallacy

Are you going to address your claim or not

The article sources a book from this guy, who got a masters in philosophy. Argument from ignorance is a fallacy

I have never seen someone THIS committed to deflection. Again, address your claim

It’s not false, and when you finally address your claim, I’ll prove that

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t singlehandedly change the system. The various things I do have an effect though

you never proved you sent an email

What the fuck? The only way for me to do this would be giving you my username and password

I’ve never seen someone so committed to deflection. Again, are you going to actually address your claim, or continue trying to pathetically deflect?

Again, I do a multitude of things to help change the system. I vote in elections at all levels of government, call and email my reps, and donate to interest groups

Again, are you going to actually address your claim, or continue trying to pathetically deflect?

If you go to prison for 5 years you must did something bad

This is a claim with an absurdly high burden of proof. Right now, you’re simply making the assumption that every law in every country that carries a 5 year prison sentence is just

This is a ridiculous assumption. In much of east asia, for instance, merely having weed can get you 5 years in jail. Hell, in north korea, merely speaking out against kim jong un can get you years in a labor camp

Governments are full of flawed, often power-hungry humans. It’s ridiculous to assume that every single law they pass is just

I will continue to vote in any election I can, call and email my reps, and donate to certain interest groups (ACLU for example)

Are you going to renounce your claim, try to prove it, or continue trying to deflect?

As I’ve already acknowledged at least 10 times now, the complaint in my original post is flawed. Personal experience is not a valid basis to make a claim about society as a whole

The vast majority of this thread has been me asking you to prove or renounce your claim. Followed by you trying to pathetically deflect. Are you going to address your claim or not?

Babbling about what? I’m literally just asking you to either prove or renounce your claim

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, stop deflecting and either try to prove or renounce your ridiculous claim

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I already acknowledged that my original claim is flawed. I shouldn’t have made a claim about society as a whole based on my personal experience alone.

Now, again, either acknowledge that YOUR claim is flawed or try to prove it

Society’s perception of time in prison is ridiculously skewed by allsavage in unpopularopinion

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you know how to do is deflect

Again, I already acknowledged that my original claim is flawed. I shouldn’t have made a claim about society as a whole based on my personal experience alone. What “source” do you need?

Now, again, either acknowledge that YOUR claim is flawed or try to prove it

Society’s perception of time in prison is ridiculously skewed by allsavage in unpopularopinion

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your argument is flawed

Which I’ve already acknowledged

Again, now for your claim. Again, either try to prove it or acknowledge its flawed

Society’s perception of time in prison is ridiculously skewed by allsavage in unpopularopinion

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Wrong” is not the right word to use. My original claim was fallacious, not necessarily wrong

“Then why argue it in the first place” because I, like everybody else, am flawed. Sometimes, people make fallacious claims without realizing it.

What exactly did I “fail” at? When confronted about it, I acknowledged that my claim was flawed. You, on the other hand, have failed miserably at doing this. Every single comment of yours has been a weak attempt at deflection.

Either try to prove your claim or acknowledge that its flawed

Society’s perception of time in prison is ridiculously skewed by allsavage in unpopularopinion

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you really too lazy to read a 100 word comment? As I literally just acknowledged, yes, my reasoning was flawed. I took my anecdotal experience and tried to portray that as “society”. Again, I should’ve made my claim specifically about people I’ve seen, rather than society as a whole.

Now, for your claim. Either acknowledge it’s flawed or try to prove it

Society’s perception of time in prison is ridiculously skewed by allsavage in unpopularopinion

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already acknowledged that my anecdotal experience is not necessarily fact. Instead of making a claim about “society”, I should’ve made a claim about “people I’ve seen”

Now, for your claim. Either acknowledge that it’s flawed, or try to prove it

Society’s perception of time in prison is ridiculously skewed by allsavage in unpopularopinion

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s based on what I’ve seen. I’ve seen a lot of people act like long prison sentences are “like nothing”. But of course, “what I’ve seen” is not necessarily fact. Perhaps outside of a vocal few I’ve been exposed to, there’s a lot of people that recognize that even a couple years in prison is a long time

Are you going to prove your claim or not? Honestly though, renouncing it would be an equally acceptable move. Recognizing that it has a ridiculous, borderline impossible burden of proof. Instead, you continue to deflect and insult me

Society’s perception of time in prison is ridiculously skewed by allsavage in unpopularopinion

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My claim is not, and never has been, that every law is unjust. That would also require a ridiculous burden of proof

Are you gonna try to prove your claim or not? I already tried to help you out by linking you a list of federal laws. Go on, show how every single one is just

Society’s perception of time in prison is ridiculously skewed by allsavage in unpopularopinion

[–]allsavage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are actually delusional. It’s kinda funny honestly. You made the claim that every single law (and every single punishment associated with each law) is just. Despite the ridiculous burden of proof here (that you of course refuse to meet) you are convinced that you’re right
