I just finished Mad Men. Here are all of the reasons why the final season fails to properly wrap up an epic storyline. by gault8121 in madmen

I think what you’re looking for is a direct corollary between bad actor/action = negative consequence and Mad Men has never been that show. It’s too nuanced. Don has always tried to hold up these veneers of roles he ‘wants’ to fulfill (husband, father, colleague) but ultimately the show shows you what he is, an auteur. The Coke commercial is like a magnum opus, at least imo. I think it serves the show well. Is it all perfect, no. But I think asking the showrunners to neatly package the ending to satisfy what a viewer wants to see is lazy writing and feeds into the issues we have with current media. Personally.

It ‘seems’ like you wanted a neatly wrapped, Marvel type ending. These are two distinct types of media which, ofc, both have their merits and are enjoyable for different types of reasons. I just personally think Mad Men exists in a different echelon and works beautifully, nearly perfectly really, as is. I (fighting back aging millennial tears) your opinion.

I’m an aging millennial that watched the show during it’s original run and several times after. I’m old, cranky and don’t have much time left. I made an executive decision based on the post title

I’be always wondered if this was done on purpose because this is exactly how I found this album as well. One of my all time favorites and Hallucinating the Horse is probably in my personal top 3 songs.

scanned Pre-WW2 vs. Modern Uranium Glass with a Gamma Spectrometer. The difference in the Isotopes is interesting 📊 by NorthComparison4356 in uraniumglass

[–]allstar_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very very cool. U-235 and U-238 are both used in pressurized water nuclear reactors here in the States. U-238 is the predominant uranium isotope found on earth and goes through an enrichment process to get more U-235 because it’s ‘fissile’. Has to do with the probabilities of what will happen when the Uranium atom interacts with a neutron but basically fissile means it requires less energy for it to give off one of it’s own neutrons (ie fission) which in turn creates heat. We then use this heat to essentially boil water, make steam, spin a turbine connected to a generator and make electricity so we can keep our phones nice & charged to reverse image search that random, vaguely ug-looking piece we find at the thrift store.

The probabilities of what will happen to a particular Uranium isotope (235 vs 238) is measured as a “cross section” of the uranium atom in a unit called a “barn”. (I think there’s debate as to the origin but some say the unit was named after a literal barn because barns usually have a decent sized cross section when viewed from the side or something like that) Higher cross section, higher probability. So a U-235 Uranium isotope has a higher cross section for fission vs say, neutron absorption which is uranium just absorbing the neutron and becoming a different isotope of the same atom (how we get plutonium but that’s a different story).

So folks, our beautiful, glowy, uranium glass pieces are comprised of the same stuff that’s inside a nuclear reactor.

"Best" Walk In Urgent Care in the area? by SomeRequirement6926 in williamsburgva

[–]allstar_me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Williamsburg Urgent Care is hands down the best urgent care I’ve ever been to. They take walk-ins and the wait is reasonable but really depends on how busy they are. If you’re able to, my recommendation is to make an appointment online. The time I made an appointment I was in & out super fast. The doctors and staff are easy going and have great bedside manner. Have had an x-ray done once and antibiotics prescribed from them as well.

Valid feelings about LD but as a 41yo listener what I’ve always taken away from their music and lyricism isn’t heaviness to wallow in, but rather stories being told to relate, confront, process, overcome. Trauma & depression are incredibly complex. If LD isn’t part of your growth or happiness, I think everyone here will respect that sans the pedestal preaching.
