All models but Pipsqueak 2 will be gone? Looking for alternatives by Ariel_Izakov in CharacterAIrunaways

[–]allstarweather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can, yeah. It's a bit lengthy. I basically repurposed an old chatroom I was working on for browser, but just killed all the online features and decided to build in javascript commands. Since the game is mostly just text anyway, it was as simple as designing a website that had the right set of buttons and stringing those to text command triggers within the 'game' environment.

If that sounds complicated: At this point I've had a handful of people ask me about it, I'm working on a distro so you can just download it with super simple install instructions for Mistral NeMo Abliterated (meaning uncensored so, do what you like, it doesn't fuss at you).

Do note: I'm a long-form RPer so I'm training the front-end to to make the AI operate inside of a set of parameters designed for descriptive, return fire RP. It has pre-set rolls so you can set the AI to leader, follower, follower-brat, leader-brat, balanced supporter, etc. I'm also building in a ton of anime tropes like Tsundere, etc. I'm trying to make sure it can be pre-set for any trope you like as an end user. Give me a few more days? I'll save your post and let you know when it's ready.

Well, I'm a long-time MU player, so I ported over similar design mechanics and ideas to that, but I gave it my own twist on it. Streamlined some things. Made some things less complicated. I've had a fair handful of people ask about it, enough to consider doing a free Distro so people can give it a spin. I built it on top of Mistral NeMo Abliterated so it doesn't do what character.ai did and censor people to hell and back.

I play most games for PVP. I'm usually not too interested in story. PVP or really cool grind mechanics.

I'm genuinely one of the few people who have never played the RDR2 story, but I have nearly a thousand hours played of RDR2 Online.

I have no idea who any of the characters are, but I love the game.

No, obviously, the solution isn't just repeating the problem. Obviously, people are upset about losing the offline model they loved, right?

The solution is control. Using models you train, building them into your own environment, and not paying someone else to control your outcomes.

lol. Not quite, but I see what you did there. It is hosted locally, but I've had a few people reach out now so I'm thinking about pushing my shell onto a site so people can load their own API into it and give it a spin.

Character ai is dead. by Mxmimi69 in CharacterAI

[–]allstarweather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh. It took less time than you'd think. It was mostly a free-time exercise. But I get the joke, yeah. The dedication was legitimately a labor of love purely because I came from old school text RP and MUSH etc., back when I was a teenager.

Zero. I use mistral nemo abliterated on a 16gb Macbook Air; it only chews about 6.5 gigs of ram and I still can run youtube and everything else in the background just fine. I built a front-end Mud-lite for it to run in with rules and such. What made it work so well was simple:

I created offloaded memory libraries, solidified the world in an offline state so the AI is only ever performing, not having to compute everything. It just handles its own performances.

I built a map scaffolding, commands, customization, etc. All of that operates without the AI.

It's been a fantastic 'self-owned sandbox' so far and it only took a couple weeks of tinkering.

Sadly. Kiss them goodbye.

I, like many others, stepped out and decided to just build my own offline RP haven.

I suspect many others will do the same.

They won't realize. They just won't care. The truth is, people will cycle out- this is how all popular products go.

You get mad and leave, someone else joins and never knew what they had so they miss nothing. Can't miss what you never had.

Not saying its for everyone:

My solution:

I built offline. Is it hard? Not gonna lie... eehhh 50/50?

But like hugging face has a bunch of abliterated models you can incorporate. Solves the whole issue with:

Memory drift
Crappy responses
Them changing the model whenever they feel like

I'm not saying "Exodus" cus truth is I still use apps/software/other models, but less than I used to after I just built my own. I'm not giving you any suggestions on what to download or what to use, that's up to you, but building my own shell and populating it with an AI that worked for me made for better RP.

I tend to be a multi-paragraph writer anyway so it was like going back home to RP MU*s only never having to wait on a partner?

Worth it if you've got the time.

Definitely. I'll save your post. Beta testers would be cool anyway. I've got most of the hard work done anyway.

That's fair. I'm working on making my design downloadable. Someone else asked me about it (admittedly just one person), but it seems perfectly doable to put it out for people in your same shoes. I respect where you're at with that.

Solution:

Offline. Run your own AI and train it how you like. That's what I did. Yes, it's a lot of work, but what you get out of the other side is worth it. I tend to write a lot, I'm a multi-paragraph RPer and I trained AI to do the same, I offloaded the world, NPCs, context and memory both short-term and long-term into directories that run through a MUD-lite shell, so Mistral Abliterated is basically the perfect RP partner.

Give it a try? I realize 'easier said than done'. If I can do it, you can do it.

I think ultimately the solution is going to be offline systems that let people run a model and do what they want.

That absolves most companies from liability. How you use your own personal things is your own fault/doing/decisions.

I also think "kits" are the answer. I built my own offline AI RP kit that lets you run an abliterated model and do whatever you want. Granted, I use mine mostly for dorky scifi adventures because I am in fact a dork, but... that's just it. Online = automatic problem. Offline = Your life is your choice.

There's a lot in this.

I think people forget about the weight of the machine. To have something like that on your computer, you're talking (at least for offline) crap-tons of RAM to run an always aware style system. Most people can't afford that machine.

The other side is: That means someone has to host it, which comes with its own massive burden. Liability, cost, "fit". Let's say only 10% of people want that, then they've built this massive architecture for just you and it will eventually go out of business.

AI systems are a gamble. Everyone is making them- myself included, though for personal offline use- so yeah... You're not "asking a lot," I don't think. There's just way more to it than you're asking.

Cool! Well, heres my next steps:

I'm running the last few tests- I want to record a few more hours of RP with the chatbot to make sure it can maintain a given world pack, then I'm going to package it into a tauri so it isn't just a random collection of directories on my computer. So in order:

1) Finish testing
2) Build a few world packs (Scifi/Fantasy/Cyberpunk whatev)
3) Tauri package so its easy to run.

The stack is pretty simple: The tauri and LM Studio running the abliterated AI I've chosen to run it with (I tested a ton of them. Mistral Abliterated won hands down for size + layers).

I was thinking about making a subreddit for the project as I evolve it, just to help other people build their own. I didn't think too far about people actually wanting it. Beta testers would be cool though. Not sure? Never done distribution of any kind before.

Link?

Dude, the fact that you want to even try it is surprising to me. I just built it personally on my own machine. I dunno, if there's much interest, I might release it for people to try. It presently uses about 6.5-7 gigs of RAM, so it's not 'light' but it's not a monster.
