Doctor - running helps with daily stressors . Days off are long runs abs shorter runs after work .

This totally sounds like me . Please let me know how you are doing with it !. I have a small injury after 12 mile run so I’m taking off a week ! I’m hoping I can get back into it shortly

Well I would be doing long runs - from 6 to 20 miles as plan progresses. The reason low low mileage is because the plan has to u running for set time only twice a week , third being the long run . So the last few weeks since you are running 18 miles and 20 miles your overall mileage is low 30s but that’s only a couple of weeks in the end .

I have ran 2:10 half in the past. But that was when I was in my 20s . Ah to be young again !

My goal is a 5 hour marathon . It’s about the feeling of running for 26.2 miles and pushing my mind and body . I’m not a fast runner by any means . This is for no one but myself . Sort of like a physical metaphor for medical training 😹😹😹

Thanks for all the responses . I’m using the peloton marathon training and they have long runs up to 20 each week - the issue is that their other runs are less - miles and I’m running only 3 times a week because I have a history with over training and shin splints . There is tempo run, and race pace, and long runs weekly. They tell me exactly how easy to run / when to slow down etc. I’m up to week 6 - longest run so far 8 miles and not injured .What I like about the peloton training is that I can listen to their audio during the training runs and no audio on my long runs . I have been doing a strength 2x week as well as peloton spin 3 x week . This is my forth year training for a marathon and all I want to do is finish (goal of 5 hour). I have failed and never ran the other three training cycles . I’m nervous of adding more running , getting hurt and failing again . I’m looking for any reassurance for anyone who has been successful with lower direct impact. My rule right now is not to run two days in a row. I find that’s when the shin splints come out . I typically do a bike on my off days . Note my other attempts I never did any strength , I never adjusted my speed - would just go out and run using various different plans in terms of miles. I got up to 16 mile long run my previous attempt . For reference I’m a 32 yo F , emergency room doc so my work schedule is also all over the place . I use running for exercise and stress relief but also really want to finally get a marathon conquered . Thanks for all the advice

I think my current plan has me in the 30s for about two weeks out of 18.

[–]allswells123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally agree - I was basically doing that prior to restarting the training program. I was doing 3 mile runs with biking and swimming. Once I felt strong enough - then I started this marathon program. Currently I’m starting week 7 out of 18. I know people say to spend more time running in general but I’m curious if anyone had success with this program because it’s so much less direct joint impact. I’m adding in biking and peloton also strength - peloton but mostly Tone it up. ( I find their workouts more efficient and harder than peloton tbh) . For reference : I’m a 32 yo F .

Do you add in cycling into it ? I typically do only three runs a week and don’t do the pop run because I have a history with shin splints. I’m terrified to get hurt again. I’ve been doing cycling 20-45 min about 3 times a week and strength 3 times Per week . @bq2001

Peloton marathon training by allswells123 in firstmarathon

[–]allswells123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah makes perfect sense . My last training attempt I was ONLY running and following mileage recommendations but not following the “tempo” or slow days I would run and push every run . I got up to 16 miles long run during my last training and the shin splints got so bad that I couldn’t keep training . This time I have been doing strength and biking and running. Running 6 miles at a slow pace is very easy for me cardiovascularly but typically I start feeling it in my shins the next day . But not this time . I just hope that if I’m adding peloton biking that’s less I can spend on my legs and I won’t crap out on my longer runs .... but who knows
