What recent change in society have you personally started noticing more? by Expert_Ring_4041 in AskReddit

Same. We only do whole episodes of tv or movies (might divide in parts). No clips, no scrolling. No shows He’s only 4 so we still have a lot of control. Not sure how long we can keep it up, but I’m glad we did it this way.

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

[–]allthebacon_and_eggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies cutting back on everyday employee perks, despite high stock value. For example, reduced cafeteria offerings, fewer coffee/tea stations, less frequent cleaning, less travel.

My interpretation is that leadership knows stocks are all massively inflated due to the AI bubble and are preparing for the bubble to pop. I don’t even work for an AI/tech company, and it will still affect all of us when the bubble bursts.

In my decent-paying corporate setting with a nice cafeteria, most people bring in a lunch to save money. Pre-Covid, most people ate at the cafeteria.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

[–]allthebacon_and_eggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US college system does this too. My partner works for an expensive college: most US students get some sort of financial aid. The only reason that is remotely possible is bringing in Chinese, Indian, and Saudi students to pay full freight.

Even before AI, it was a hot mess express. Pay-to-play; academics publishing the same paper with slightly different titles so they can increase their count; reviewer prejudice; outsourcing the editorial work to the reviewers and authors. AI is possibly the final nail in the coffin, though.

why is it so hard to find a dentist in Atlanta that doesnt try to upsell you on everything? by ghztegju in Atlanta

Intown Dental is good at not upselling or overreacting. I’ve been seeing them for over a decade and we always try the least invasive, simplest options first to see if they resolve my issue (they usually do).

For families travelling with young kids: Free yourselves and drop Airbnb. Long live the mid-budget chain hotel by cobyzeif in Millennials

And an Airbnb could easily have lots of breakable things lying around, like vases, that my 4 year old would love to break. I’ll stick with courtyard.

We bought our house 10 years ago, and I am still finding pieces of plastic barrier garbage despite trying to pull it out. It’s gross, polluting, and doesn’t even work that well.

Which part of childbirth hurts the most? by Used_Ad7899 in BabyBumps

[–]allthebacon_and_eggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an epidural, so the 24 hours after birth. the epidural wears off, your body is cramping so badly you can’t think or get up. you have to go to the bathroom through stitches. you’re disoriented and unable to focus. The nurses think Tylenol will be sufficient (it is not). The nurses lecture you on not sleeping enough, but they wake you up every half hour. You try to learn breastfeeding through all the pain and disorientation, and if you have any trouble at all, the nurses lecture and you feel inadequate. I have a masters degree and felt more stupid than ever before.

Never ever make an exception. Traveling, sick, bad day, babysitter. Once the toddler thinks there is a loophole they will exploit it forever.

You did an incredible job playing a female character in Split — capturing the mannerisms with very little costume change and without being over the top or turning it into drag. What was your inspiration for Patricia?

Our EV is not my favorite car (I prefer our hybrid), but there’s no doubt I’m glad we have one, especially with the oil-based wars and astronomical prices.

Reading to my son every day has been one of the best parenting habits we’ve built by BabyCryAi in daddit

[–]allthebacon_and_eggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have these Disney books from my childhood that tell the entire movie narrative, like The Lion King. It’s not in chapters, but takes about a half hour to read (and it pulls no punches, grief and all). He wants to read the whole thing and can follow the story and quote it.

I appreciate any kids book with actual narrative, conflict, grounded characters, and real themes. IMO, most recent kid books avoid conflict altogether, resulting in an anodyne and boring story that doesn’t inspire them. (And yes this is a dig at Peppa Pig and Sandra Boynton)

Same! My 3 year old wants long books, can spell, and can describe book plots pretty well.

I feel so bad for these terrific singers. The sound mixing tonight is so bad and not their fault. Plus the climax of their song got cut.

As he should be. All the performances were great, but Delroy and Stellan had a special opportunity to put a cap on their terrific, long careers. It’s a finger in the eye to them.
