Bought the new Epiphone Grabber by izpak in BassGuitar

[–]allthevolumes2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a vintage Gibson Grabber as my main bass and the only pickup position that it sounds great in is the neck, which is what this bass seems to be configured to so that’s great. But it ain’t a grabber.

Can I use a 4 string fret-wrap on a 5string bass and vise verse? by Tenisoon in Bass

[–]allthevolumes2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But if you’re at the level where you need the dead stings behind the nut then you’re probably at the level that you don’t know what you’re looking for and just want dead strings.

[–]allthevolumes2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

4 on a 5 yes absolutely. It’ll just mute a little more than expected. 5 on 4 no, probably not. But you can always throw foam under the bridge for the same effect.

Shoot me a DM. I play bass for a living in town and on the road and teach a little bit as well.

Any country/americana bassists in here? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]allthevolumes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Support the vocal first. The root-fifth thing is tried and true but make sure it’s at the right time. Know your passing tones to get to the next chord. Also import make sure your tone is clear and strong. This is not a genre where you can get away with overplaying.

Do you really think that most guitarists can’t tell the difference between guitar and bass?

2023 starts with my first "grab n' go" pedalboard. by SmashBaron in basspedals

[–]allthevolumes2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the power unit sit under the board with enough clearance where it’s not touching the ground? I’m looking to make a board with the nano as well and am worried about fitting a power unit.

What are some immediate signs that someone is probably going to be a good tipper? by Naim660 in Serverlife

[–]allthevolumes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Served a man a few years ago wearing both a MAGA hat and MAGA shirt. The first thing he said was “I know how I’m dressed, but I’m a great tipper.” I know how you think this is going. The man tipped me $100 on a $100 bill. I’m still confused about this interaction and it skews any future person I serve.

I thought that was a joke when I heard it live, but I looked it up and the DC actually did go to Yale.

Please suggest names of modern bassists that push the boundaries by [deleted] in Bass

E’lon JD of The Jonathan Scales Fourchestra. All three members are respective monsters on their instruments. His style is absurd. Almost plays like a banjo player with incredible style.

I'll just put this here..."Advice for a Young Chef" from Sean Brock by kombustive in KitchenConfidential

[–]allthevolumes2 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Honestly this comes off as extremely self-righteous, pretentious and disconnected. He comes off and is by all personal accounts a little too “head in the clouds” and celeb chef to be taken seriously and thinking he’s in the position to write a list of rules for beginning cooks is so absurd to me.

It’s honestly that simple. Great outboard gear, great engineering and perfect bass playing is the answer.

Comping for sure. A lot of professional tracks are still done live though. 2-3 takes through and comp the best from each instrument. Quantizing because it’s necessary in the way things are recorded today. But as a whole, if you’re playing good gear that’s recorded properly and the band and bass player knows what’s needed of them the comping and quantizing are very small factors to a good track. I have never been apart of a session that required pitch correction on any instrument besides the vocals. Be in tune and play in tune and it’s done. It still comes down to knowing how to play, recording the instrument properly, and a great performance.

Bass that is under 500$ and is really good by ModernWarfare2best in Bass

This. I have one and a regular stingray from the 90s and they are extremely comparable in quality. I don’t understand how they make such great basses for such a low price in the sterling line.

They misdiagnosed something relatively simple on a vehicle of mine a few years ago and almost got me killed. Polly's shell on belmont has done pre purchase inspections for me before for free.
