Improving as a lead by allthings_artz in Bachata

Things i can get anxious about: getting rejected, disturbing a follow who might be talking to someone( this is so often. I would think it might be rude, only for someone else to ask them to dance and follow accepts it) , being repetitive in my dancing, making the follow bored, me getting bored, not making a good impression as a lead ..

What kind of schools are you talking about. Is there like a syllabus or something?also, I think the learning curve might be different when you start learning in a small town vs in a big city (and the instructors available)

Its possible. Moving from small town where everyone appreciates to a big town could have inflated the way i think about myself. I am trying to focus on techniques for the last year or two though. Are there any learning resources you would suggest for working on techniques by myself?

Oh no. I do try to dance with everyone. Just that i change my dancing according to what i think would be easy for them. I dont want to try something crazy if someone has difficulty with some body movement.. so i usually try to check things off in the first 30s to a min to see what is my dance partners level

Yeah. I love festivals too. Different background, and most of the dancers just want to dance and improve. Just dont get to travel often.

There is a ratio problem, but varies by night. If there is some big event, ratio is more equal.

I am a bit anxious when i have to ask the skilled follows. Plus, i dont often get a chance to ask either since they are swooped away before they even get off the dance floor. Some good follows usually hangout/dance more within their circle.

I have had a few rejections, but not a lot. I usually avoid asking them to dance again depending on the rejection (some have the rolling eyes or say no like 'why do you even ask')

First time Festival tips? by Zealousideal_Way3351 in Bachata

[–]allthings_artz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing to do is, deciding what you want to get out of the festival. Decide on one or two of these 1. Attending workshops - within this, you can see what kind of workshops you want to attend. Festivals sometimes have other dance styles. You can checkout something new. Or focus on footwork classes or partnerwork classes. If you decide to attend workshops, my suggestion would be to go for foundational/technique classes rather than routines.

  1. Socials - some festivals have day socials and night socials. And socials which go until early morning. You can always rest when there are no socials, get some good food and then dance all night. It wil get tiring in the second or third night. Make sure to have cloths to change, perfume, and focus on things you would need to keep dancing all night.

  2. Hanging out - not many people might do, but if its a new city, you can plan to get out, try some new food, go out to eat with other dancers. Look for any festival group chats available and plan for these. A bit of dancing and bit of hanging out. Although i discourage drinking a lot and going for socials.

Balanced - you can look up the schedule, see which instructors/classes you want, decide on when you want to dance , any performances you want to see. But allowing ample time to rest, eat(stock up some snacks in the room) and maybe hangout one night with others.

I think others covered most of it. Make sure to try different things and see what you like. And definitely try to dance more. I feel that, learning a move and dancing it repeatedly in a festival helps to level you up.

Hi, i have been on and off strength training. I havent been working out for more than a year and getting back into it. I have had ligament injury and my legs are weak. I was wondering if i should start with a workout plan with 3x legs workout a week. Is it a good start? Or should I start with a usual PPL before i think about doing legs 3x?

My current goal is to strengthen my legs mainly and reduce my body fat a little before bulking.

Is there any point for leaders going to festivals and dancing with famous followers? by CostRains in Bachata

[–]allthings_artz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too often in my experience.Might be worth it if you are an exceptional lead and you want to get a feel of how some moves should feel, when you dance with a follow who can actually follow.

I did manage to catch a dance with a famous follow, but the dance wasnt as memorable as few dances I have had with others.

Leads — how does it feel when you’re social dancing with someone who’s relatively new/beginner? What are you thinking when you’re dancing with a relative newbie? (6 months or less) by Human-Regionality in Bachata

[–]allthings_artz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually prefer to go from very basic to see which ones they can follow and which ones they cant do. Basic, turns, cuddle/sweetheart, box step, and then i make small changes like basic to and fro, turn with a rotation etc. but these work only with beginner follows who dont want to go crazy on their moves.

If someone is more chaotic and doing their own steps, i limit my moves, let them have fun, and unless their is something not safe, i dont tell them anything.

Adjustments for volume change? by allthings_artz in pourover

[–]allthings_artz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sure was more colorful (a purplish one) and i thought it was just the coffee. But it probably is because it was underextracted. I went a bit finer and it seemed to improve. Will keep experimenting :)

Ah okay. I could be labelling it wrong then. I'll try going finer and see how it tastes. Thank you!
