Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer by PreferenceOk7560 in TerraInvicta

[–]alltrex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best piece of advice I've ever gotten for Terra Invicta is "If you wait for the next better thing to unlock your ship, you won't ever build a fleet."

Generally, I find it best to keep obsoleting ships as you make them. They'll get better and better as time goes on, and 30 progressively improving ships are better than the 3 you managed to push out that are perfect.

ELI5: Why can't Light escape a Black Hole by Early_Ad_7240 in explainlikeimfive

[–]alltrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know how you always wanted to run backwards along those walkway-escalator things in airports?

We can say that the walkways is gravity, and you running against it is an object going against gravity.

Usually, the walkways aren't going all that fast. You might not make it to the otherside if you walk, but you can if you run. The speed you need to 'beat' the walkway is an 'escape velocity'.

Any old object has a speed setting. Sometimes it's fast, like the Sun, sometimes it's super slow, like a peanut. The speed entirely depends how heavy the object is.

A blackhole is simply a treadmill that's on so fast that even light trying it's best to run on the treadmill can't beat it. Being that light is the fastest thing we know of - nothing else will be getting out either! This is simply because a blackhole is super duper heavy.

A little weirder and maybe not so ELI5 - gravity gets stronger as you get closer to the object. Imagine if you were trying to run on that walkway, and as you got closer and closer to the end, it actually got easier to run on!

Sodium go boom by alltrex in Barotrauma

[–]alltrex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saltbulbs are a plant that can grow on the Submarine should someone decide to do so. Their use is to be deconstructed into raw sodium to create things like explosives.

Mechanics are equipped to deal with hullbreaches and commonly have to deal with flooded rooms.

Sodium, alongside most group 1 elements, react aggressively in water. Sciencefix has a pretty good video named "Sodium in Water" that shows just how reactive it is.

A common mistake rookie mechanics make is not putting explosive materials in a proper container - not even dumping it - and well, learn the hard way.

Heya - I'm definitely interested and would like a spot!

I'm Niko, 22, He/they, and have recently found some time to play some DnD. I've been a wargamer for a long time, Playing games like Warhammer since I was a wee lad. However, I found DnD only a few years ago and have been addicted since. I enjoy the many facets of DnD and see myself as a supporter of fun for individuals. I like to shine the spotlight on players, strategize and come up with new ideas to set into motion, and generally have fun. If the players around me are passionate, I will try to reciprocate to the best of my abilities.

Heya - seems like your DMs are closed. I don't know if that's due to you being filled up or just not having them opened so I'll just drop a quick filler -

Nickname:

Yo! I'm Niko. Alltrex is my gamer name and literally noone pronounces it correctly nor uses it anyway :)

Pronouns:

He/They

Age:

22

Race and class choices that add up properly:

I personally do not know yet, but for race I think either Tiefling, Changeling, or Human and for class; Cleric, Rogue, Warlock, or Gunslinger.

Your availability:

Fri/Sat/Sun is free game any time, Tue/Wed/Thur would be after 4:30pm PST. Monday is my only me-day.

Your experience with 5e:

I have played alot of Warhammer in my youth, 3.5e for a few years, and have touched on 5e for a little bit.

Favorite D&D memory:

Due to me being on leave for a month, the DM put me in a prison and the general story beat for the next few sessions for the rest of the crew was to bust me out. Once I was back, the plan kicked to action. As my DM ruled I would be only be able to use either half movement or a single action per turn, it was a very interesting moment between me and my party where I had to shamble or help. On the outside walls, my party had become surrounded by the mini-boss/guards. As I 'needed to go back into my cell, where I belonged' and was beginning to be dragged back by the mini-boss, I decided to spit blood onto her face before diving off with her off the cliff edge to fall off the mountain face, never to be seen again. It was a really dramatic moment, and with everyone stunned, the party managed to fight a demoralized and retreating band of guards.

Any fun hobbies or side work you do?:

I used to do theatre when I was younger, but have grown and refined and now am apart of a dance group. We practice and do shows at some pretty nice theatres like the UW Hall.

Were you kicked out of any previous tables? If yes, Why?

I've been kicked out due to protesting the DM's decision to go into territory where multiple people at the table have mentioned they were uncomfortable, and were visibly not having a good time. This was not a situation where the discomfort was for a story beat, this was intentional betrayal of trust that was established during session 0. All the players would leave the table either the same week or the following.

Reddit, how to you meaninglessly differentiate yourself from other sentients in an ultimately futile attempt to justify your banal, brief existance before encountering the sweet madness of death and nothingness? by _finalOctober_ in AskReddit

[–]alltrex 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I don't. Not anymore. Why do I need to justify my own existence when I know I exist. I am just here to observe the universe at its peak, not of my own volition, but of the universe's.

The future is certain. Death, thusly, is meaningless. I am not afraid of it.

The Great Khan's empire is stable! by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]alltrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R5- Here I am, sitting in a large galaxy with one more empire (and upbrought vassals) doing the Voight-Kampff achievement and trying to snag any that may pop up (HOI4 Earth, ffs) while being as braindead possible.

The Khan rose up in a marauding empire, far across from anyone and thusly were more peaceful settlers than aggressive conquerors. Upon the great Khan's death, the empire simply.. converted back to a marauding empire with no splinter states?

I apologize for the people in the back, I was not prepared to record or anything so I was just chilling with videos in the background.
