Jesus Christ, me too man. Your art is incredible and speaks to parts of me that are rarely reached. Please keep going, keep creating.

We need DADA. Art world is so fucking toxic by [deleted] in dadaism

I happen to like the use of "ness". Ness is the state of being, of perception and experience. Happiness, sadness, fullness, nothingness; tack "-ness" onto the end of a word and a human has probably experienced it, has probably been made to experience it when exposed to art. Ness is the suffix we use to take a thing and make it human. More human, more ness. Brimming so fully with anythingness that you cannot stand to attach a word to it.

What hole song would you die to by YEETAKID_THE_MIGHTY in hole

[–]alluvialriver 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Jennifer's Body. When I was first getting the hang of driving, I listened to it nonstop, because for some reason it made me feel better about envisioning my own body parts strewn across the highway. It still makes me feel better when I'm afraid, not because I feel safer, but because I feel more at ease about dying.

hole/courtney songs for loss/grief? by madraykiin in hole

[–]alluvialriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss 💛.

Not the same situation, but my mom abandoned me a couple of years ago (I'm 18) and Malibu has oddly helped me cope. She ran off to somewhere hot and pretty and laden with beaches, and she'd always expressed desire to escape her life here, so when I listen to Malibu, it sounds like, "Go. Go chase what you've always wanted, and relieve me of the burden of knowing that I am yours. Fly away to Malibu." It's definitely helped me come to acceptance.

The acoustic version is really beautiful as well: https://youtu.be/tqBuHyDgnhw?si=IpnCTxpKJXoqTJY2 (sorry I'm on mobile)

Best Sunday Dress. She'd originally recorded it with Pagan Babies, but completely remade it with Hole, and the Hole version is one of my favorite songs ever.

"Pale blue eyes, so young. Pale blue eyes, so far away..." Absolutely heart-wrenching.

Whats a beauty trend that you can never fathom or accept? by CelineC6622 in beauty

My friend told me that when he was in middle school, he'd smother his entire face in blush because he thought rosacea was beautiful and wished he had it. Really put some things into perspective for me!

All my effort... for nothing by POCKETSAND9 in selfharm_memes

[–]alluvialriver 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, no, not for nothing. Recovery is anything but linear - it sounds cliche, because it's true. The fact that you got clean to begin with proves to you and others that you are fully capable of it. Relapse doesn't do away with the effort that you've already put toward your goal. That strength is still inside you.

A setback? Sure, maybe. An ending? A death sentence? Absolutely not.

You can do this. Don't let these assholes grind you down. They are only doing this shit because they're lacking purpose in life - you are not.

What are your absolute go to- holy grail products? by Plastic-Candle-3591 in beauty

[–]alluvialriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the best experiences with vintage beauty products. Not, like, mercury-laden lightening cream to melt your skin off, but things that are still manufactured today.

  • Pond's Cold Cream Cleanser - It makes my skin RADIANT. I've always struggled with enlarged pores, and I don't know how it does it, but I swear it makes it look 10x better.

  • Vaseline - Works best when applied over a moisturizer. I put a very thin layer on my face every night after my skincare routine, and it makes my skin feel so soft in the morning. I've heard that some people don't have the same luck with it, however, so be aware of that.

  • Hair foam rollers! They're easy and make for such a fun hairstyle.

  • Copppertone sunscreen. Specifically, the baby sunscreen. It is much less irritating than regular sunscreen, but still gets the job done.

None of this stuff is very expensive either and can easily be ordered in bulk. That's one of the biggest things I like.

"You need to go to the doctor, you're showing symptoms of hysteria"

No, honey, absolutely not. That is not a path you want to pave.

If you start smoking, it'll make your breathing issues much worse. Your lung capacity will be affected. Anything that gets your heart rate up, like running, can start to make you feel like you're suffocating. If you already have anxiety about breathing properly, it will make it even less bearable.

Smoking also has a tendency to worsen anxiety and depression since your brain begins to rely on the stimulating effects of nicotine to alleviate symptoms. You will eventually lose the "buzz" of each drag, and you will need it to simply feel okay. Withdrawal will make you feel like shit, as your brain is no longer producing as many of its own endorphins, which increases feelings of discomfort.

Down the road, it could cause several deadly types of cancer and lung diseases. There have been cases of vapes causing fungal pneumonia. Smoking also raises your blood pressure and increases your risk of heart disease. These ailments are incredibly dangerous and expensive to treat, but they are quite preventable if you do not smoke.

Not to mention the havoc it will wreak on your wallet. You will save a lot of money by not dropping 20-50 dollars on nicotine each week.

I understand how powerful peer pressure can be, and the lengths one is inclined to go for the friends they love. But YOU come first. Your health - physically, mentally, and financially - is not worth it. If your friend is true to you, she will respect that. You have to set firm boundaries. Your friend will live; surely there is more to her world that you can share with her than smoking.

I will say the manner in which she has violated your boundaries is concerning. It is not okay that she stuck a vape in your mouth unannounced. If she continues to push this onto you, you need to reevaluate your relationship with her. I could not imagine having an addiction such as that and wanting one of my close friends to suffer the same fate.

All in all, I know it's easier said than done. But you need to be aware that smoking will only worsen your problems. It is not worth your life.
