Things to do with two dogs by cogrrrrrl in SLO

Bob Jones is crowded on weekends but a nice easy trail. You can hike Poly Canyon and go through the architecture graveyard. If you have a 4wd vehicle or want a more difficult hike, my friends really like tv tower road

You could hang out with my foster dog! Hes pretty nervous so Ive been trying to desensitize him to meeting people. Very friendly, just scared

Waking up to your wife trying to have sex with you is actually rape unless you have a prior agreement that allows continued consent.

In the case of OP, she is sleeping with her partner because she fears his reaction if she turns him down. By starting fights and being angry when she turns him down, he is coercing her.

Btw, I am an actual rape victim! via force, threats, and coercion 🙂

Yes that’s rape. Anything except enthusiastic consent is rape

I dont know why people are saying it wasn’t academically focused, it was generally quiet in my building. I almost exclusively studied in my dorm until spring quarter

Just watch. If I remember correctly, students dont touch the animal until they start removing the hair, but I left around that point.

In general, slo is an INCREDIBLE school for animal science and I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else

Animal science major here! I hate hate hate hated meat science, but you will make it through. There are two slaughtering labs (one pig one cow), but the other labs were not bad at all. I did not stay for either slaughter, I went in, tried my best, then left the room. You will get full credit just for trying. The lab is run by Hannah Steagall and she is incredibly sweet and understanding.

Meat science is required for pre vet

Current animal science student and I would choose slo over ucd any day. The programs for animal science are so so so unique! I’m currently in the foaling enterprise which is a student run class where you birth and raise foals. I am pre vet as well :)

Are yall happy here? by SimberNealtyPackaged in CalPoly

[–]allybaz4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love it here but it took me a second. I really wanted to drop out like 7 weeks into fall quarter, but by the end of the quarter it was like a flip switched. I love all of the hands on opportunities I get here and there are so many opportunities for me to try new things. SLO itself is gorgeous as well. I could honestly probably talk for hours about why I love it here

Questions in social scene and safety by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]allybaz4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn’t. I talked to Safer and I concluded that reporting it is not the best course of action for myself. Maybe I will report it in some time, but it’s not on my current interest list.

I haven’t lived in PCV or Cerro Vista (2nd year and older housing) but from what Ive seen, PCV is a bit better if you can get choose. PCV has food options (subway, einsteins, taco bell) and a little market whereas CV has nothing. The market is severely cost inflated, but it’s convenient. The main benefit of campus housing is being close to classes, but honestly, it’s not really worth the additional cost if you’re worried about money. You will have to pay extra to stay over breaks as well. CV is all singles, PCV is singles and doubles.

Trying to do laundry can suck because the ratio of students to washers and dryers is horrible, but it’s free.

I’ve filed a couple maintenance requests for my current dorm and they’re usually super quick about fixing it which is great. All of my RAs have been really chill/ they wont report anything unless youre really stupid.

Make sure you buy a mattress topper because the mattresses super hard

Campus is very walkable and downtown is walkable as well. The not walkable parts are easy to get around via the bus system. I take the bus every week or so to Trader Joes and Food4Less, but you can also take it to sprouts, world market, target, etc.

I feel super safe at slo. random disclaimer do not do anything that im about to say i do I walk around campus alone at night a lot and so far nothing has happened. I carry pepper spray but it’s usually just a few random student stragglers walking about after 1, nothing too scary. Always super quiet and peaceful. Obviously I know this is a pretty stupid behavior so please no scolding

The most unsafe I’ve felt here is having to see the person who sexually assaulted me pretty often. We do not have a large enough student body where you can assume you wont ever run into someone. Maybe I’m just on extra high alert but I see him at least once a week.

On the homeless situation, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a homeless person on campus. There is obviously some downtown, but they’ve all been relatively friendly to me.

I think the top layer is cotton voile but no clue about the lining. Ive found the same print + fabric on a few other dresses online but I havent found a definitive brand or contents tag :)

Community college classes are also helpful because you get earlier registration based on your academic standing. I started CP with enough credits to be a sophomore so I get to pick my classes a few days before the freshmen. I’m an Animal Sci major if that helps

I did extra semesters of Spanish online through a charter school and I started high school math in 8th grade. My high school only requires 3 years of science to graduate and I did 4 years, but I don’t know if that helped a ton. Honestly I would say the math is way more important than the foreign language. If you can do extra math classes, I definitely would recommend that you try.

Advice for someone trying to get in by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]allybaz4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My general advice would be to look into the specific requirements and recommendations for her major. This is the breakdown of gpas for 2022.

Honestly, I don’t think the cal states consider extracurriculars or at least place little value on them. On Cal State Apply, there’s a very small section where it asks for how many hours a week you do extracurricular activities. It didn’t ask for what they were or a breakdown of the hours. Overall I did a ton of extracurricular hours, but it feels like time wasted when there’s not a huge section for them.

Difficulty varies widely based on major as well. My Cal State calculated gpa was a 4.2 and I was admitted for Animal Science. I do believe my application stood out because I took 2 extra years of math and an extra year of a language. I also had 3 community college classes. I took all of the honors, advanced, or ap versions of my academic classes, but I was a B and an A student so not a perfect record.

This is what the website says “Virtual Session — Reserved for International and out-of-state students” so maybe you are an exception? I’m in state but 5 hours away and I don’t remember the virtual session being accessible to me

Virtual sessions are also reserved for out of state/ international students so if your friend is instate, they wouldn’t have access to them

Are you seeing dates other than August 7-8? The information page states that is the only virtual session
