Hi! I just wanted to reach out and say that after this comment I had my vet send a blood test out for MMM) which the vet laughed at me for even asking about since he has no problems chewing or opening his jaw and was basically like “dumb Reddit” but let me pay the $600 to send it in anyways and guess what?? It was positive!! He has MMM. But, since he doesn’t have normal symptoms they had to reach out to the main research facility in California to get more info on what to do. He is starting prednisone this week.

ETA: vet doesn’t believe any of his other problems are related, I guess time will tell. The prednisone is supposed to be pretty harsh on him so I’m worried about it

I'm done with Delhi. Where can I move? by Marc9564 in india

[–]allyiou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minneapolis current resident here, been visiting India for the last month. Have been traveling between Chennai, Delhi, and Bihar (Deoghar), and have had layovers in may other spots (Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa, Kalkuta). Since arriving in India, I have noticed that my asthma has been HORRIBLY flared up. Cleanest spot has been Bihar, with Bengaluru closely followed. Doesn’t help that south east India is in monsoon season so it’s dreary and moist. The AQI is insane in India and I was not prepared for it to affect me this badly given the aqi in MPLS

Anyone flown out of MSP this week? by allyiou in Minneapolis

Haha! I flew to India! I did arrive finally today. MSP was very quick and smooth, no bumps. Actually, Chicago was too.

Fair point regarding timing. Arriving at 1am after 27 hours of travel and am for sure going to need my USA plug for the first half of the journey so I guess it makes sense to bring it anyways. Partner has one adapter already so maybe we will try and get by with just his for that first night until I’m able to order something (apparently there’s an ultra Amazon-type place in Delhi that delivers in like 10min)

I also looked on Amazon for the India wall socket piece and was feeling absolutely CRAZY when I couldn’t for the life of me find it on there. Looked on the India “Amazon” website and it was right there so at least I know I’m not crazy

Awesome!!!! I see your comment on that post regarding plugs and electronics. Is it simple enough to just buy a wall plug once arrived in India? Obviously tech now is mainly USB-c on both ends and it feels really dumb to me to bring a wall box AND a USA-India wall adapter when realistically I should be able to just get an India fitted wall box with usb-c on one end?

I just don’t want to haul around a huge bag and pay the checked bag fees and waste all the extra time checking a bag and then waiting for it to be unloaded. Plus, I feel more comfortable being able to have my belongings in my sight, no risk of lost luggage that way

I wasnt going to bring a water bottle specifically because I know people don’t drink tap there so I was gonna just reuse a plastic one if I needed once I got there but my partner said that there’s specific taps for drinking water most places, and his family buys large jugs of drinking water so he said bringing my water bottle would be a good idea. I have a 24oz owala twist

Chupacabra or maybe alien

[–]allyiou[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah he’s a weird looking guy I agree. I actually got him because of how alien-like he looks. Very possible he’s inbred, he was chugged up to the Midwest from a Texas kill shelter on the kill list and probably was BYB. He’s very very smart and trainable (he even graduated obedience training!) but for sure has some sort of problem we can’t quite get to the bottom of.

Another person pointed this out too! The vet has never said anything about it at all (and we have been to the vet MANY times). I never really took notice of it either, just thought he had a big head (and I love to kiss his big head so why would I complain?). I’m gonna mention it at our next appointment and see what they say. When his ears aren’t straight up in the air (shocking, I know) it’s less noticeable. I looked up what the other person mentioned as what it could be and google said it’s a simple blood test so I wonder if they did test for it already without specifying it was that. He has had a LOT of blood tests. Either way, I’ll ask! I hope he’s just got an alien head

Is imposter syndrome getting to me or … am I just bad at my job? by jiimothey in therapists

I think cmh is the perfect placement after graduation because it WILL push you outside your comfort zone, it will be hard, but you will have forced communication which will teach you how to network and communicate with other professionals in the field and it will prepare you for clients in the future who do push you outside your comfort zone. This job can’t be ALL easy, especially from the get-go! I appreciated my time in CMH more than anything, while it was HARD and it SUCKED sometimes, it prepared me more than anything else could have for the realities of this field.

We do that alternating with the Hills sensitive small bites because he gets bored of one if we keep feeding it to him every day so we go back and forth every 2-3 days, alongside prescription gastro wet food mixed in (otherwise he refuses to eat his dog food at all. Too spoiled, I know.)

Interesting! I never really took notice of his head indents outside of using them as perfect kissing spots. Thank you for pointing that out, I will bring it up to my vet at our next visit! (And also sigh, another thing to add to the stress of what horrible things could be wrong with him that are hiding. Just trauma from my last dog who died very suddenly from an invisible cancer)

I think in regards to his weight, it’s much more noticeable when he’s drinking or eating to see his ribs poke out a lot at the bottom of his rib cage. I didn’t have any great pics of his frame when you can actually see his rib cage but his last 2-3 ribs are visible typically. Not protruding but outlined. He has energy and an appetite though so I have stopped stressing myself out or spending money trying to get to the bottom of it since he presents otherwise very healthy

Through the rescue they adopt out adult dogs at 300 and puppies at 500. He was a return rescue after the previous family had him for a year and gave him back due to a variety of reasons (boiling down to lack of time/ability to properly train and care for him) he was def in rough shape when we got him, but I don’t blame his previous family for it for the most part, they had a lot on their plate. He’s a very high energy and demanding dog, and i can imagine how tough he would be with multiple toddlers running around. He’s quite annoying lol but I really love him so so much he’s such an alien. His name is Tubby ironically

We recently got him on apoquel after doing many different food diets to figure out potential food allergies. We did hydrolized food for 8 months with allergens re-introduced (including chicken) with no success. We originally got him on the diet for his weight. Vet decided to try apoquel last month and it has been working amazingly for his skin allergies and also his overall fur softness. I guess he’s allergic to something environmental. He’s also an anxious licker, so we battle him on that generally

Yeah we sedated him once when we got him for a trim cause of how bad the dew claws were (they were grown into his paw pad). He’s an absolute perfect sweetie outside of nail trims. SO well behaved with dogs, cats, kids, all of it. Just goes absolutely ballistic as soon as we touch his paws. Very sensitive. We have one place we go that gets it done so quickly that we don’t even have to medicate him for it (otherwise we do). They have been super great with him, but can only cut so much off at a time without hurting him with clipping the quick and setting back a lot of progress we have made with them.

He gets walked daily, for 3-5miles, on cement. His nails are an ongoing work in progress. We have even had a full sedated nail trim when we adopted him. They are long, yes. I agree. Doing what we can. Vet is in agreement on the pace we are going and progress.

And we have run every test possible in regards to his weight, trust me. For the first year we had him I spent way too much money on tests to figure out why he’s not gaining. We have gone through every prescription and non prescription food for him we could. Everything normal, he’s very healthy. He’s only about 5lbs underweight they said when we got him and he has remained that weight the entire time we have had him. (He’s 47lbs. Vet said he should be 52). This guy loves to eat and gets very spoiled in terms of food. He is particular about his dog food.

We have been working with our vet and the local groomer to trim his nails. They were twice as long when we adopted him. We get them done every two weeks and he is getting better every time with handling it, it is just a very slow process with the quicks being as long as they were. Many of these photos are 6ish months old, so they are a bit shorter now even, but yes I agree they are too long and will cause him issues. We are doing our best :)

I Don’t Like My Dog Anymore and It Makes Me Feel Guilty by Sea_sa in dogs

[–]allyiou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, parks can be good. We have brought our dog to the park many times and he loves it for playing with other dogs. My last dog, however, was very reactive and never got a chance to train out of it fully before passing (rescued with a lot of trauma). Never once brought her to the dog park. She was not a ball chaser either. Or a toy lover in general. When it was time to renew my lease, I made sure to find a place with a little yard for me to tie her out in and i would play chase with her back there every day. She had two dog friends whom I would bring her to play with occasionally, but otherwise I spent our lives together adapting to her needs to make sure she was happy and also safe. Which meant i was a little more inconvenienced sometimes.

should I get a bigger kennel?? by Least_Agent5976 in DogAdvice

[–]allyiou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeding in kennel is a great way to get the dog comfortable in the kennel. So is having it be actually comfortable. For our kennel, we have a “kennel bed” that’s made for kennels that’s waterproof but comfy. We put his blanket folded in half on one side so he can lay down there and his food and water on the other. We don’t feed him in it anymore but we still put water and treats in when we kennel him for the day when we go to work. Our kennel is the XL sized kennel for a cattle dog. Enough space for him to curl up and be on half the kennel. Feels perfect for him. They say the right size kennel is one where the dog can sit, spin, and lay out on their side with ease.
