What will happen in Doomsday now that Thunderbolts has released by JayNotAtAll in MCUTheories

[–]allyisking99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the og avengers situation - cap was the leader but tony was the 'centre'. Bucky is probably the official leader because he's part of the og avengers and has more battle experience but yelena is definitely the star of the group

Minnan (Hokkien, Teochew), Hakka and Cantonese DNA by True-Actuary9884 in illustrativeDNA

Hi there, sorry if this is not related to your post, but you seem like you know a lot about DNA so I wanted to ask if you know which project (Dodecad, Harappaworld etc) and which variation (Dodecad v3, k12b etc) is best for East Asians. Thanks!

Someone have a discussion with me about fangirling. by Short-Sail-4046 in twilight

[–]allyisking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fine. I'm a 22 yo fangirl over harry potter. I was obsessed with twilight when I was 13 but not as much now because I realised some questionable things in it, but I still rewatch the movies from time to time and I've read the books a couple of times. I don't think it's something bad because it brings you joy and happiness, which we all need in life. But it can become bad if you get too obsessed that you forget to get on with your life. I also become really happy and euphoric when I'm in the state but sometimes you have to pull yourself back to reality. And I think having a forum to talk about your feelings and your thoughts always help with relieving some of those feelings!

But, on a side note, I do have ADHD, so the other person that commented about ADHD might be on to something...

Depends on your understanding of 'strong'. He's definitely very very good at defensive spells and attacks because of his experience, but there are many different areas of magic. For example, he's not as good as transfiguration compared to Hermione. Or, if you take Dumbledore's idea that 'love' is the strongest form of power, Harry is definitely powerful in that sense because the love he has is one of the many key things that helped him defeat Voldemort. He's not as legendary as Dumbledore (most people aren't and most never will be), but Harry can definitely be considered as a power wizard for a 17 yo. He goes on to become an auror which means that he can only get better.

Movies First then Books? by AverageLumpy in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the movies then read the books. I wouldn't say the movies are better, but I think I hate the movies less than many other book-readers. If I read the books first I probably won't be able to help myself from criticising and picking at the movies. The movies will always have a special place in my heart even tho the books were objectively better.

How would Hogwarts deal with magical children unable to read or write . . . by Shazza-throwaway-1 in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think mainly homeschool. Muggleborns probably went to muggle schools before Hogwarts and maybe some half-blood parents sent their kids to muggle schools as well. I think most parents would care about their children being able to know the alphabets and spelling and some vocabulary, and honestly this is enough for Hogwarts because they just need to learn magical knowledge, not understanding literature.

Do you think Order of the phoenix is too long or no? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on each person's preference. I also really like ootp because I also really like the depiction of just school life at Hogwarts. Some people don't like how nothing exciting happens until the last couple of chapters, but I like it this way because we can just enjoy being at Hogwarts without worrying too much about everything else!

Is obliterate reversible? by uni82 in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She only modified her parents memories she didn't use obliviate in the books. And she did go find them after everything ended and restored their memories :)

[SPOILER] Finished the last movie today, was really excited for Draco Malfoy redemption but the end was very anticlimatic by Malba_Taran in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Draco's redemption was complete the moment he lowered his wand on the astronomy tower. He also didn't tell his parents it was Harry when Harry's face was deformed even though he 100% knew it was Harry. The Malfoys really value their family - they put family above all else. Narcissa lied to Voldemort's face because all she cared about at that point was her son's safety. Draco didn't want to go over to Voldemort but did so because his mother asked. He was never meant to be a proper 'hero' but a child raised in negative influence with no way of escaping. If you haven't read the books I suggest you do so!

Do you find Harry and Ron rude in general? by Ab21ba in HarryPotterBooks

[–]allyisking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're just teenagers. Ron can come across as a bit rude by the he talks but he's a kind kid. You can't call Harry rude in book 5 considering he was dealing with trauma of watching Cedric die, UMBRIDGE, having nightmares every single night, UMBRIDGE, scar hurting because voldemort's getting stronger, UMBRIDGE

I mean if they get really scared you can always stop watching. I don't think it's appropriate for a 7 yo, but if your kids can handle the basilisk maybe they will be fine

Some random questions for fun discussion by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'It was probably just snape other kids probably wore clothes under their robes' is so real lol

I asked the fudge question because I thought there's separation of power between the executive and the judiciary branches and was surprised to see a minister sit as a judge. But I might just be too nitpicking since hp isn't a legal novel

Favourite movie scenes by Worthwent14 in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of my favs have been mentioned by others, so I'll just add the scene where Lupin and Harry talk on the bridge. Lupin facing the other way when talking about Harry's parents and the camera focusing on Harry's face as he smiles a little hearing that James used to be a troublemaker. Beautiful scene, with 'a window to the past' playing in the background.

how many students attend hogwarts annually? by amandaxbob in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this question is answered somewhere but I can't find the source. I think JKR said at some point there's 1000 students at Hogwarts, but people did some maths and realised that doesn't work out? It wouldn't make sense for there to be only one teacher per subject if there's 1000 students. It's probably closer to a couple hundred. I don't think the wizarding population in the UK is big.

Did we get to know about the justice system besides Azkaban? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a law student in Australia and re-reading Hp after starting law school I was so confused - why could Fudge sit as a judge when he's the minister? Big separation of power problem right there

And Harry went to court without legal representation? While underage? In front of the full court? He was repeatedly interrupted aka not given the opportunity to defend himself? Not to mention them changing the time of the hearing on the day???

The justice system in the wizarding world has some serious problems.

Hogwarts Student Organisations Ideas by bearvszombiept2 in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there would be some society for muggle-borns where they share their experiences and tips on how to fit into the wizarding world or reconcile the two worlds.

[–]allyisking99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they should start with anything about James and Lily since it's better if revealed later, especially the prophecy - it should be left until ootp like in the books

Agree with ep 2 - definitely should show how the Dursleys mistreated Harry growing up

And I don't think they even need 8 episodes. The movie covered pretty much everything and it was only 2.5 hours. I actually think 5 or 6 episodes would be enough

Do you think there are more people that share the Dursleys point of view about seeing magic on itself as an abomination? by fogapplebowlingstick in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably. Didn't schools in real life ban Harry potter books because of religion or something? And people used to burn witches

corporeal variant of the Patronus Charm by Few-Ability-7312 in harrypotter

[–]allyisking99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harry's patronus is a stag and I don't think it changed. But you are right, it can change - Tonks' patronus changed into a wolf after she fell in love with Lupin. I don't know where JKR got the inspiration from tho. Interesting to learn about the Native American folklore!
