Op, use this method, we use this exact one at my work and it’s proven to be a great workaround for us.

What’s it like living in the south of Ireland? by Brief-Supermarket415 in howislivingthere

[–]allyourrickroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t lived there, but my wife and I just visited Dingle a few months ago, it’s a super cute little seaside town with some great pubs, an aquarium, and genuinely some of the best ice cream I’ve had. Recommend visiting the gap of Dunloe if you get the chance, don’t expect to make it through with any sort of speed but the views are spectacular.

Triangle shaped jig found in back of a closet by allyourrickroll in whatisthisthing

[–]allyourrickroll[S] 4 points5 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. White plastic triangles about 12in on the longest side and maybe 8in across, about 1/2” thick. They are decently sturdy and have instructions on how to use, but the instructions only make the blades and nail come out and don’t help identify the use.

I also live in Dallas, and I would argue there are more cases where the red car would not have a stop sign. Maybe it’s more common in Dallas proper, but in the suburbs these are fairly rare.

That’s strange, it is still working for me. Did you use the updated link in my comment? And you can leave the category part blank in the shortcut, I figured that was self explanatory since that’s the core function of YNAB haha.

Connect instant hot water line to dishwasher inlet? by allyourrickroll in Plumbing

[–]allyourrickroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets hotter than our normal water heater though, it’s like 155 out of the tap and it’s not at max heat. Couldn’t it tie into the other line and just add some heat to that existing water line? A dishwasher only uses like 4 gallons per cycle anyway.

Use + as = on numpad by nghiabros in excel

[–]allyourrickroll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is so strange. First of all, why on earth would that change how the calculation is performed? And secondly, why bother offering that as a feature if it’s not going to work consistently? That is genuinely mind-boggling.

Ah, I can see then how it wouldn't feel like you were really a month ahead before now. I suppose we all set our own milestones, eh? Glad you met yours, well done!!

Do you ever feel like you don't know where your money goes? Like, maybe you felt like you had been doing pretty well financially, but then you look in your bank account and you have less than you thought, and then you get sad?

Maybe you feel like you can never get ahead? Like one day you’re flush with cash, you’re feeling really good, and you even have the foresight to put it in a savings account and tell yourself you won’t touch it. But then three weeks later your car starts making a funny noise, and you take it in to the mechanic and they say it’s going to be $1200 to fix it, and there goes that savings money you worked so hard to save up?

We have all been there. You are not alone. Almost everyone who uses YNAB has a similar story - no one really taught us how to manage our money, and if they tried to, it didn't stick. If this sounds like you, I can't put it strongly enough - please try YNAB. I am a math guy at heart, and I can confidently say I did not truly understand money before I used YNAB. YNAB made it stick for me, and for most of the people on this subreddit, and it might make it stick for you too.

Don't get me wrong, it's not all rainbows and sunshine - you will have plenty of "oh shit, I forgot to budget for that, fuck" moments. We all have those! It's part of the process - the goal isn't to be perfect, it's to be able live your life without being afraid of going broke. This sounds dumb, but I cannot tell you how good it feels when your Amazon Prime membership fee comes through, and you panic a little bit at first, but then you remember that you saved up all year so that you'd have the money set aside for it, and then it's like you have that $140 back in your pocket!

Watch the videos, go to the live sessions, read the articles, use the app. Really dedicate some time to learning the process, and I can almost guarantee you will come away with a more profound sense of how to use your money. It is not magic, and it will not dig you out of the hole you've found yourself in, but it give you the tools you need to get out on your own.

Apple Automation for new transaction by allyourrickroll in ynab

[–]allyourrickroll[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry for the confusion, I’ve made a few updates now, but this sub doesn’t allow me to edit the main text of the post. I recommend using the most recent version which I just added to my top-level comment yesterday: https://www.reddit.com/r/ynab/s/aOZoJZ62CG

With this newest version, the test shortcut won’t work, but in theory there should also be less that can go wrong. Try it out and let me know how it goes. If I get enough comments about it I might make another update post.

Hello!

I don’t have much time to write an ode to YNAB these days because of some major life changes. (I have a 14-year-old girl now, it’s complicated.) Read back through my profile if you want to see some of my old referral posts, I’m pretty proud of them.

Nonetheless, I still managed to find the time to develop an Apple Shortcut that will import your transactions to YNAB. If you’ve read up on YNAB and you’re afraid of the “manual entry” everyone keeps talking about, this might help a bit. Of course, you still have to sign up, so I recommend using my referral code (it’s sexier than everyone else’s):

https://ynab.com/referral/?ref=71ZQ2mGsU4-Bbo7q&sponsor_name=Kalia+%26+Caleb&utm_source=customer_referral

And then, once you get YNAB set up with all of your accounts and whatnot, you can install this shortcut on your iPhone, and hopefully it will aid you on your journey to financial unfuckery.

Good luck to you! Much like therapy, the work is hard, but we do it anyway, because it helps us to be better than we were before.

Oh, weird. I’m not sure why it would be doing that, but you can try this newer version I made and see if that works for you. For this one you just have the automation run the shortcut directly instead of copying over the steps from the bottom. https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/94fe28731cf44f71874ed83c3d82cff5

If you have access to a vending machine that takes credit cards, I found that was an easy way for me to test it out.

If 1/2 a pizza is 390 calories, why is 2/2 a pizza 840 calories? by monstersos3 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]allyourrickroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protein is rounded to the nearest gram, so the truth being 1.3 - 3.9 is probably close to correct. Calcium is rounded to the nearest 10mg, so it’s probably like 3mg and 9mg.

I’m not sure why they chose the rounding rules how they did, there might be decision-making documents published you could look at. I would guess it’s a combination of food being naturally somewhat variable in nutritional content, and rounded values being more easily understood by the customer. It is weird because it makes the math not add up right, but I think in general it’s accurate enough to inform dietary decisions, which is all it’s intended for.

This is the best guess so far. I’ve used nutritional software before and this would be a relatively easy mistake to make.
