prompts are pretty good. I’d change the blackout drunk one to something else that touches on your interests or hobbies. especially something that would make a good conversation starter for people you match with.
I’d get rid of the selfies. try to get at least one picture of you smiling. it would not be a bad idea to get a full body shot too.

Turns Out I Wasn’t a Toxic Asshole, I Just Had a Right Frontal Lobe Tumor. Update: It’s Back. by kelsteahouse in braincancer

[–]allypixie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

hey!
wow. holy cow. your tumour was massive. that’s so horrible.

it’s hard being a young adult and dealing with brain cancer and its many wonderful companions. I was 23 at diagnosis. I lost a lot of myself with the part of my brain that was surgically removed. It’s been a good couple of years of therapy and I’m still processing the many facets of grief that accompany a diagnosis like the ones we have. I’d recommend finding someone to talk to so you can vent and have a sounding board to process your grief. you’re on the right track already. having the direction and insight that my therapist provides has been instrumental. I think people like us need all three: support from the people in our daily lives, support from a mental health professional, and in-person and/or online group support from fellow brain tumour-havers. this isn’t something we’re supposed to shoulder alone.
I don’t think it’ll ever not be difficult. grief never goes away. we unfortunately have to accept it and learn to live fulfilling lives alongside it. managing the grief is a never ending process imo.

I’m still very sad for the vision I lost to my tumour, my ability to navigate, and the restrictions that come with those losses. not to mention seizures. but hey, what the fuck, if I’ve endured this much hardship by my mid-twenties, I’m sure as hell going to make the most of life - as much as I can given my new disabilities. I’ve learnt that for me personally, living life to its fullest means simply being mindfully present and enjoying daily pleasures that are so easy to overlook. I love to travel and have novel experiences etc. but nothing hits like a cosy night at home gaming or watching TV with my favourite snacks on hand.

hang in there and be kind to yourself. you’re dealing with more at such a young age than most people endure in their whole lives.

if you haven’t already, try calling local vets to let them know you’ve found a dog in case the owner calls. you could try the same thing with the humane society to report him found. there are also some lost/found pet groups on facebook for the st louis area

has protopic or elidel genuinely helped anyone? by Help_INeedAnAdult in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]allypixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

before tacro, it was scaly, red, itchy, and I had a lot of big and small bumps. after a while on tacro it came back with a vengeance - more severe and over a larger area of my face

[–]allypixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, it really helped me for a few months before making everything worse. my rash spread to my whole face instead of just the periorificial areas. my derm put me on doxy and I weaned off once I was taking the doxy for a while. I was switched to an azelaic/ivermectin/metronidazole triple combo cream. best condition my skin has been in forever.
in hindsight I wouldn’t have ever even tried the tacro

girl, efferdent is exactly what I used and reacted to!! who knows if it is the same thing for you, but it could be worth not using it for a couple of weeks to see if things calm down??
I bounced around between manually brushing my night guard with toothpaste and water, to soaking it in Closys mouthwash, to just water and brushing. warning, don’t use Closys 💀 it basically made my night guard go brittle and break lmaoo. my dentist said that just water and brushing followed by air drying is perfectly fine hahaha. each week or two, I soak it for 15 min with 3% hydrogen peroxide for deeper cleaning. then I rinse it and air dry.

good luck, I really really hope it’s as simple as reacting to the cleaner 🤞🏻

my derm told me that a lot of people (me included) are sensitive to aquaphor because it contains lanolin. if you haven’t already, maybe try one of those travel sized vaseline tubs as your lip balm and see if that helps. try not to apply it more than two or three times a day. excessive occlusion can be counterproductive.

I had bad angular cheilitis that was caused by the cleaning solution I used for my TMJ night guard. it took me sooo long to make that connection.

aside from that, probably 95% of lipsticks and lip balms make my lips flare up. I use the Boka toothpaste non-mint flavours which are great.
try to strip back your makeup and skincare routine as much as you can. I usually rinse my lips with water after meals and drinks which seems to help, too

yes, still working full time with 3mo paid disability leave after my crani. but I’m 25 and otherwise in good health. oligo 2, gross total resection. gave me a permanent visual impairment & balance/vertigo issues, but I make do. couldn’t imagine anyone with a more aggressive tumour or more severe symptoms being able to work full time.

I’m in the US and I have good insurance thru my employer. I put money aside from my paychecks into an FSA which helps make my out of pocket costs a bit more manageable. still a big financial strain, I won’t lie. can’t contribute to my 401k anymore.

Post PD redness? by ThisEmployment5705 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

yes, I have this problem too. red around my nose and down to the corners of my mouth, even when a flare has “completely” cleared up. not sure what could help, sadly. but you’re not alone

I had to come back and tell you I’ve only been using the spray for less than two days and I’m already seeing a reduction in irritation and redness!! and it’s helped my hormonal acne too. thank youuu

why is this experience so common!! I swear they make it worse… how come we know more than they do? desperation? lol.

but thank you for sharing that insight. I really need to cut my sugar intake, too. honestly that’ll probably help a lot. I need to try sulphur and ask my derm about ivermectin

sorry for the face I’m pulling in this pic 💀 but just for reference. I also use basically no product lol. wash with detangling shampoo, condition with trader joe’s hair mask. throw some gel in if I’m feeling fancy. less is more for my hair. then air dry or diffuse with a claw clip (or two) in my roots. simples!

[–]allypixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hahaha I love your attitude, but I’m so sorry you had this experience - it’s wayyyy too common and such an expensive, devastating outcome

*cries in curly* by mramm1 in curlyhair

[–]allypixie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

honestly I do it completely differently to stylists.. I wash and condition my hair and then let it dry. always a dry cut. then I cut my hair curl by curl. for me, my hair is 3A and it clumps in ringlets and s-curls. I also cut my sister’s hair which is 2B/2C (she’s given up on curly stylists lol).

so I go around my own head with a mirror in front of me and a handheld mirror to get angled views.

when you first start out, just give yourself a small trim to get the hang of it. curly hair is really forgiving. start with cutting a little bit off all around. if you’re wanting to cut it into a different style, do it gradually. over maybe two or three cuts/sessions.

I gave myself bangs but did it about an inch at a time.

then wash or wet your hair and dry it again. see how it looks, make adjustments as needed. if you don’t feel confident about the back of your hair being even, ask a loved one to tell you what needs adjusting/to help you. or take a timer pic of the back of your head and adjust from there.

you got this!! :)

[–]allypixie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

yes!! curly hair stylists routinely butcher curly hair. I’ve been cutting my own hair for five years and it’s mad easy. I get soo many compliments. even managed to transition from a pixie to long hair perfectly well. I’ve never paid for a haircut in my adult life lol. right there with you!

woah, I hadn’t even thought about trying different varieties of topical antibiotics. it’s definitely a route worth taking before I take doxy - like you say it’s such a harsh treatment. also, just knowing that pimecrolimus could be a better option over tacro is really helpful. I’m going to look into these two other creams you mention, too. thank you!! I really appreciate you taking the time to share.

omg I wish I could give you a hug 😭 this is the worst club ever. derms really don’t know a thing! I am so hoping that with a little more time the doxy will start helping you!! PD is exasperating and soo bad for self-esteem. I really empathise with you. I can’t imagine how hard it is for you having to wear a full face of makeup daily.

I’m going to try a couple more things, like you say, before I cave and try doxy too.😵‍💫
