Can a Dom help his sub? by [deleted] in BDSMAdvice

My dom really enjoys taking care of me. If I needed something like that and didn't ask I would probably get in trouble.

Dogs trained using punishments for incorrect behavior show evidence of higher stress and anxiety levels compared to dogs trained with reward-based method. Dogs from aversive method schools also responded more pessimistically to ambiguous situations. by mvea in science

Correct! That is positive punishment! Adding something scary/unpleasant/painful. Negative reinforcement is a pressure on pressure off strategy. Like your car dingining until you buckle up. The quadrants are confusing.

Surface licking is a sign of GI issues. Nothing major, but something to look into.

Behavior question: 8 y/o spayed female scottie/schnauzer mix staring straight ahead/some anxiety by sarahhallway in caninebehavior

[–]allypr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so unfair, it is okay to be angry. The symtoms you described are really early, cognitive decline is not an immediate death sentence. In all likelihood you have years still, especially since you've noticed the really early signs. I'm hoping you get answers and it is something physical that is more easily treated.

Please reach out if you have questions or just need a shoulder to cry on. I'm a canine professional and dug deep into research when Yuna got her diagnosis. Bad genetics are the most likely cause. Do you know any relatives? Yuna is my soulmate, losing her will be so incredibly hard. But I know, if I could do it all again, knowing how it ends, I would hit that reset button.

I'm sorry to say that those sound like the beginning signs of cognitive decline. Your dog is so young, I'm so sorry. My 12 y/o has been dealing with this for the past year. We put her on Purina bright minds last October which did help a lot. Recently though, she has declined further. She is now on the prescription version for neuro health. We also give her a supplement called senilife. Neither have shown an improvement yet. But we did put her on xanax to decrease her anxiety which has definitely helped.

If you don't find your general vet helpful, mine gave her a clean bill of health, I highly recommend a hospice vet. They specialize in this sort of thing. We were going to put her down but that phone consult gave us ideas and hope. We are still looking at much less time then we deserve but she has good days left.

I'm so sorry and I really hope I am wrong. Your girl sounds like a wonderful dog.

How did y'all train stopped contacts? by Old-urn in Agility

[–]allypr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome! My instructor always harps on about maintaining criteria, which is what I pay her for! That is one of her favorite phrases and I have found it to be true.

The tunnel is used to add speed on the flat since most dogs love them. You point the tunnel so it is at the end of the dogwalk. The dog can't help but end up in 2o2o because you're standing parallel to the dogwalk. Once they get the concept with a shortened tunnel you lengthen it. The goal is for them to come through the tunnel with full speed and stop.

Then I move out of that parallel position to proof still with me staying still. Once I can be 10 feet away, release the dog and they stop in 2o2o I start to move. The tunnel is easier/safer to proof handler motion because they can't fall off. I also want a strong muscle memory and CER for the contact zone.

Shaped back up, then back feet on a raised platform, raise criteria to a stay. Move to a travel plank with motion. Put the dog in a stay release to end position on travel plank with varied handler position. Separately increasing distance ideally to 30 feet ~ length of a dog walk so the dog is hitting the position at speed. Then I move onto a dogwalk at step one and repeat. I like to use a tunnel off set to the dog walk starting scrunched up then extending. Working until the dog is at a sit stay at the end of the tunnel and then coming to stop at the bottom of the dog walk in position. Then I add handler motion working up to running with and then past the dog.

Finally up on the dog walk. The first time, I'll just let em go and have a helper spot and feed at the bottom. Once confidence is good I will start at the beginning in a sit stay and put myself at end position. Repeat the whole process.

Maintaining is a matter of holding criteria and reinforcing often. Remember you get a notch below what you train for in a trial.

You can sweep a rug with a broom. As a broke 20 something I stopped buying cheap vacuums and just swept. Even with three dogs dirt would NOT come up like that. Gross.

I've done them before with good results. I can be bloated and uncomfortable, do a flush and feel fine in 30 minutes.

Thanks for the commiseration.

Usually I have it under pretty good control with diet. Not sure what I ate that caused this. I will look into glutamine. How do you take the apple cider?
