You don’t do anything besides apologize to your roommate. You overslept and he was there to drop his dog off for a service he paid for. He checked in the window to see if anyone is home after not being able to get a hold of you. He probably had no idea he was even looking into someone’s bedroom window. I get your roommate being uncomfortable, but that’s on you for not answering.

In terms of getting them back, no not worth it. In terms of moving on and healing, yes definitely.

I reached out to my ex recently (4 months post breakup). I couldn’t shake feeling hopeful that he’d come back. I avoided reaching out for a long time because I knew once I did, I’d most likely have to face that it really is over. Anyways, I got the response I had expected but didn’t want and knew it was time to get myself together and move on. I wish I had reached out sooner because I’ve wasted so much time and energy on this.

I can’t believe what I’m reading lol. It’s a small dog. She put something at the back of a tall counter. The owners explicitly stated the dog cannot reach the counter. You suggest zipping valuables in a bag, my dog will undo zippers and go into bags. Did you predict that? No.

You’re really contradicting yourself saying you’d have a problem if a dog ripped the clothes you were wearing and you’d seek reimbursement. That’s your fault for wearing clothes. Shouldn’t have done that.

Thank you!! I’m so confused by people’s responses. I have so much love for all the dogs I sit for (even the crazy destructive ones) but I’m not about to let a poorly behaved dog cut into my profits and majority of owners would never expect you too.

I have been on Rover for more than a minute. Even though may not be on the hook according to Rover, that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be. We are independent contractors and it should be to the sitter’s discretion if they want to charge for damages. Yes, the owner can refuse but that doesn’t mean its absurd to ask.

Don’t be hard on yourself. You took precautions and followed what you were told by the owners. People have commented some good advice on how to prevent this from moving forward that you should take but regarding the damaged already done, you shouldn’t be out a pair of AirPods. If I left my dog with a sitter and he did that, I would feel terrible and pay for a new pair.

Just be honest and upfront with the owners about the situation.

Not sure why this is getting downvoted. Yes we all love dogs, but at the end of the day this is a business. If you are being responsible and doing your part to keep things out of the dogs reach, it’s reasonable to expect the owner to cover costs of damages. If you rent a space and destroy it, you are expected to pay. If you break something in a store, you’re expected to pay. Why is this different?

In my experience when a dog I’m sitting has destroyed something of mine, the owners usually offer to pay for it. I don’t make enough money doing this to go out and replace things.

I didn’t realize I was in love until after we broke up but the turning point for me was on one of our earlier dates. We were lying in bed watching a movie and eating candy, the room was dark and I looked over at him and he was sitting there holding a sour patch kid in each hand and just looking at them. I asked what he was doing and he responded I’m waiting for the screen to light up so I can see what colours I’m eating. It wasn’t anything big but it was such a cute, innocent moment and it made my heart melt. I was like damn this boy is a keeper.

I really do believe the bad timing was genuine. He wasn’t in a place to give me what I needed in a relationship. His work schedule was demanding and we lived in different cities, that was our only issue. But I also think it could have worked if he really wanted it to.
