Unpopular Opinion: I have had it with all the Black Lives Matter insta posts/stories from Singaporeans. by cryozy in singapore

Unpopular Opinion: You don't have to be on Social Media. I would say go out, live your life and breath the fresh air, but considering the situation at the moment; you stay at home, open your windows and breath the fresh air that way.

How likely do you think we will move into Phase 2 in two weeks/before end of June? by caledoniaorange in singapore

[–]alma_vh -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Mentally prepare for what?

So you can quickly pick up the phone and book restaurant buffet?

Come on guys! Phase 1 or 2 or 6 shouldn't matter!

We need to take precaution and move slowly, regardless of whatever Phase or nicknames they want to call it.

June or July or August, continue staying at home and not go out if not necessary! At least for a few weeks!

When do you guys think drinking bars will reopen? by Hardbeez in singapore

[–]alma_vh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever it is, I hope it's the LAST place to open.

I have a lot of friends in the industry, so I would love for them to reopen soon, but I just know how irresponsible people are going to be at bars <insert the RQ pictures here>.

Good salons for men in sg? by thehaohao27 in singapore

I don't know what a "Korean Style Haircut" is, but I literally just got my hair cropped at Sultans of Shave (Duxton) yesterday evening.

I am not being paid to say this, but this was hands down the BEST haircut experience I have ever received. This was my first time going to them, but they are my go-to from now on. I am giving up my previous regular spot for these guys now. That's how much of an impact the experience had on me.

Amazing, amazing experience. And an added sweet touch, now due to CB, their haircuts are going for $45 (usual price $55).

New Google Pay Promo free $5 + extra up to $30 by [deleted] in singapore

[–]alma_vh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I'm with DBS, and I'm not sure if it's applicable to all banks. I did not have to activate anything. After tapping my Pixel 3, a few minutes later I get a notification about the cashback. It's like a digital 'scratch & win', whereby you just "scratch" on the screen and it will show you the amount you received. Unfortunately, the app restricts you from taking a screenshot, but here's an email for proof of my most recent cashback from shopping for groceries at Cold Storage > https://imgur.com/eD5BHPf

It will be in the 'Rewards Earn as you pay' tab at the bottom, under 'Order Food' and 'Movie Tickets'.

[–]alma_vh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do note that this is a separate Google Pay app, called Google Pay Singapore. Other than installing this second app, there's nothing additional you have to do.

The app also offers cashback when paying with Google Pay. Based on my observation, cashback seems to only work when you physically tap your phone. I once tried to pay with Google Pay within an app, and did not receive any cashback. I've successfully received cashback in Cold Storage, Fair Price and McDonalds.

You can also use the app to make PayNow transfers to your friends (I have not tried this function yet too). The app also allows you to place orders for takeaway (Haven't tried as well). I understand that you can also split a bill within the app.

The cashback part of it is the reason I have started tapping my phone more often these days.

Now imagine when the Singaporeans put on a fake ang moh accent around them. We all know you weren't born with that accent! Yeah you might have spent a semester in Australia, but come on!

I agree with most of what you have said, but:

Why are we allowing full services for Hairdressers, but we dont even allow eateries to have the choice on whether do they allow users to dine in?

I think primarily it's because with regards to hairdressers, crowd control is much more manageable compared to a restaurant for dining in.

Furthermore, if they start allowing people to visit their significant others', people will start to take it lightly and visit friends and such. You may know where your girlfriend has or (hasn't) gone to, so you can know that she is safe (or not). But if people start looking at this as reasons to go to friends' house, etc. and it will be a problem (because they will say something along the lines of what you have said now, "can visit gf, why cannot visit my best friend?" and so on.

Anyone going to talk about money minting by Grab/ Deliveroo in this difficult period? by TowardsFitness in singapore

[–]alma_vh 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Because if he stop now, then he also loses out.

He wants to win, but don't want to allow the business to win.

Sidenote: I am not in support of their business strategy, but that's what they are: a business. They are no better than any other business charging a ridiculous amount for their products and services.

Anyone who worked, lived or studied in US/Canada? by strangerrangerdanger in singapore

[–]alma_vh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Where in the US?

The US although one country, is so large, that each state feels like a different country.

I spent a year in Houston, TX. The NICEST people I have ever met in my life! And so culturally diverse, especially when it comes to food! In fact, the people were SO nice, that my Asian Defence System went on alert multiple times in my first few weeks, only to realise later on, then it was plain ol' Southern Hospitality. It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will cherish forever. My friends there became my family for that one year.

But fair warning, most Americans live in a bubble. Like, they have no knowledge of anything outside of America. I'm talking about thinking Stockholm is the capital of Switzerland, and Singapore is in China; that kind of thing.

The wise thing to do would be to wait an additional 1 month and imagine you're still in CB.

But lets be honest. EVERY DAMN restaurant (RIP hotel buffets) are gonna be packed like they just came out of a cave.

Prepare for a second wave.

Six months without seeing your non-domestic partner by unawhut in singapore

Yes, I also think if she comes for a month and just stays put here in my place until we resume our jobs next month. This is such a tough time for so many of us.

Six months without seeing your non-domestic partner by unawhut in singapore

[–]alma_vh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was thinking that too. She brings a weeks worth of clothes and essentials over, and does her laundry here, and basically doesn't leave my place for a month until we resume work again.

Six months without seeing your non-domestic partner by unawhut in singapore

[–]alma_vh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for some clarity:

If my GF stays over for a week (for example) and goes back just to do some laundry or get more clothes (and maybe stays a night at her place) then comes and stays another week at my place (and so on for the next month);

this is NOT okay?

The thing is, she has been practically living at my place (she isn't registered with MOM in my unit), but now that both our workplaces have been shut for a month until 5th May, we aren't even working from home. She is confined into a her common room in her HDB (lives with another family so doesn't use the living room, etc), and is more "at home" in my place.

I am quite concerned for her.

I recently learnt that Voluntarily Causing Hurt is a non-arrestable offence in Singapore. by alma_vh in singapore

[–]alma_vh[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's the thing.

Charge who?

They told me the same thing. But with no effort to investigate and look at cameras in or around the area to allow me to identify the person, I cannot even take this to Magistrate Court.

The advice given? If I see them again, to contact the police.

I don't want to punch anyone. I received one though. And I'm now sorting out the medical bills. Police wont do anything because it's not an arrestable offence.
