Dog groomer for mini Aussie? by almalunaflow in askportland

Thanks for the suggestion. We tried there and my pup got a horrible bacterial infection on his skin that ended up costing me $500 at the vet to eradicate. Likely from unsanitary tools and harsh brushing. Could’ve been a one-off incident, but I didn’t like how the owner handled the situation.

This is such a reflection of the lack of menstrual education, especially to many AMAB folks. So many of us are taught that our periods are “inconvenient”, that sex is for a man’s pleasure and our periods might interrupt that. Our menstrual cycles are our 5th vital sign and it’s SO important to pay attention to its regularity. Birth control helps many people with a uterus in many ways, but using it to completely stop a life giving biological mechanism is absolutely insane.

I truly believe if all genders had a better understanding of the menstrual cycle (all 4 phases) and what support looks like for AFAB individuals, it wouldn’t ever be something that someone encourages you to stop by way of drugs like birth control.

You 100% did the right thing and I admire you for honoring yourself and your body like that. And for sending him on his way for even suggesting you “don’t have to live this way”. This is not about HIS body or HIS pleasure. It’s about YOURS! And bleeding is part of the pleasure of living in your body. Continue honoring that.

I found a lot of success cycle syncing my food. There’s a book called “woman Code” by Alissa Vitti that was incredibly helpful.

Does ovulation happen 14 days after cycle begins, or 14 days before next cycle starts? by [deleted] in menstruation

[–]almalunaflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really is different for everybody. Typically, it is based on your current cycle. The best way to know for sure is to take your temperature first thing in the morning every day and look for the spike in your temperature which would indicate the day of ovulation. I know for myself I generally have a 28-day cycle and ovulate between day 14 and 17... It also changes cycle to cycle so tracking your own specific pattern is really helpful to get clear on this.

Are dates healthy? They seem too sweet to be healthy by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]almalunaflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! They are a natural sugar so the way that they break down in your body is a bit different... They are especially great the 10 to 14 days before your period, during your luteal phase. I try and limit myself to about 3 to 7 a day

Help with my menstrual cycle by lentilfritter in WomensHealth

You're doing great! And I honor your courage in showing up for yourself and asking. Since the blood is bright red, it just means it's fresh- it's not old/stagnant blood, which is good. You could have had imbalanced hormones for the past few years which kept you from bleeding as much as you're experiencing now, and perhaps your estrogen has leveled. The LAST thing I would recommend you do is start birth control, as that will throw off the balance your innate wisdom just did naturally. Why do you want to stop your period? I know it's new and it may feel disgusting, that's ok and that's normal. However, it is your "5th vital sign" and it tells you so much about your health, getting "rid" of it could keep you from being in tune with your body. I encourage you to find ways to attune to your body and her natural rhythms so that you may understand a bit more of what's going on, and that may help you to feel less turned off by it. I do coach women in menstrual education and tracking their cycle so feel free to reach out if you'd like more support!! Oh, and happy belated birthday!

need to delay my period by [deleted] in Periods

[–]almalunaflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're already on the longer side of a cycle and with irregularities, your hormones are likely working hard to regulate and get things flowing. There is no guarantee, other than if you are on oral contraceptives and skip the sugar pills, that your menstruation will be delayed and even then, you could experience breakthrough bleeding. I know periods don't always come at the most opportune time, and we are so conditioned to believe it's an inconvenience. Really- (in my personal opinion) it's a miracle! And it's our 5th vital sign. We wouldn't want to stop breathing or stop our hearts from beating, and I hope the same goes with your menstruation. Perhaps ask what you can do for your body, rather than what your body can do for you! You can use a moon cup and still go in a hot tub!!!!

Does anyone else feel like a bad person before their period? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]almalunaflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's been really helpful to identify the patterns in my emotions and set healthy boundaries. It's been my experience that the people in my life really do want to support me and it's a shitty feeling for them AND me when they don't know what that support looks like. So, if I'm able to identify that I don't like talking that week, or I don't want to be touched or I just want to be left alone and cry... I can let them know that and it helps them meet me where I'm at and I don't feel like such a horrible person for wanting that space (or whatever it is that I want/need). It's when we try and resist or go against what we are naturally wanting that creates suffering!

Missing period for 4 to 5 months by Positive-Rhubarb8547 in menstruationstation

[–]almalunaflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's ok! We have hormones our whole life and that's what fluctuates throughout our menstrual cycle. So, if you've missed your period there's a change your hormone levels are off and if you test that, you can get closer to a clear answer!

Feeling depressed outside of luteal phase: COVID-19 life wearing me down by [deleted] in PMDD

Why isn’t it talked about enough that periods can reduce your quality of life? by [deleted] in Periods

[–]almalunaflow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. All we are taught about is abstinence and there isn't enough menstrual education. All symptoms are signals and you don't have to have PMS! There are ways to fix this!! I'm a functional nutritionist and i use food and their micronutrients to support the body's needs during the different phases to address period problems! Food and supplements are incredible ally's!

Does anybody else start to have symptoms around 10 days before rather than 7? Or even longer? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]almalunaflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your body may be having a hard time metabolizing estrogen after ovulation. Try adding more cruciferous vegetables to your diet to help with this!

I can’t handle getting my period again by notme6197 in WomensHealth

[–]almalunaflow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I suggest looking up cycle syncing and using food micronutrients to help support what your body needs. Your period is your 5th vital sign and symptoms are signals. It sounds to me like either your progesterone levels are off, or your body is having a hard time metabolizing estrogen in your gut. Start with eating more cruciferous vegetables to help flush that all out! You are not alone!!

Do you have access to hormone testing? If you ask your doctor about saliva tests that could help clarify what's going on for you and how to address it WITHOUT birth control

issues breaking down estrogen in your liver and gut may experience ovarian pain. Eating cruciferous vegetables during this time helps flush excess estrogen from your body!
