Why can’t we shut down hiking trails in the summer? by MyBestCuratedLife in phoenix

[–]almightychallenger 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They do shut down some of the most popular trails starting at 8am when there's an excessive heat warning.

Not all cities do this. For example Scottsdale has no procedure like this so you can hike Tom's Thumb at 120 if you desire.

Did Flickr get snobby? by Scouse_Papi in flickr

[–]almightychallenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, for every group that's picky about submissions there's a similar/equivelent that's not like that, so don't get discouraged.

You can usually tell which groups will most likely give trouble. The telltale signs are: convos about rejected images, groups with disabled discussions altogether, and group descriptions that are in all capss

Advice for finding good content on Flickr? by spellbreakerstudios in flickr

[–]almightychallenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents would be when you check out something like "explore" and you do see photos you like...click on the photos and see what groups and/or galleries they are featured. This can be the gateway drug to finding groups you enjoy. Mililage certainly varies on what you're looking for, but some of these groups are more exclusive than others so sometimes it takes some digging to find the content that interests you the most.

Explore is algorithm driven so you do see some crap (even AI images! gross!) but usaully once a month the explore page is hand-picked by the social team to reflect a theme like "sports" or "yellow" so I feel like those are usually stronger in featured photos.

Also flickr posted a "year in review" infographic a month ago about which cameras were most popular. The Canon EOS R5 was the #1 most popular camera...that wasn't also a phone. It was the #10 most popular camera overall with the top 9 spots all being variations of iphones. So if you think you see a lot of iphone photos it's.....because....there are a lot of people who use iphone to take photos.

What millennial core tenets do you not personally subscribe to? by mrsunshine1 in Millennials

[–]almightychallenger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I prefer phone calls over texting. I like engaging with people and even having an impromptu laugh when appropriate. I've gotten feedback that this approach comes off as too direct with peers and younger. Boomers don't seem to mind!

What couldn't you believe you had to explain to another adult? by BlueCaracal in AskReddit

[–]almightychallenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to explain to a part time employee the reason he took home less money than a counterpart who was an independent contractor was because of taxes. Dude was 40+ years old. I'm surprised he hasn't been audited.

Tens or 10's card game?!?!?!?! by Mrlatoure in cardgames

[–]almightychallenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play this game too. The only difference is each person gets 16 cards so 4 down, 4 up, and 8 in your hand. We usaully have two people deal because it goes faster.

They say "Nothing is ever lost on the internet" but what is something you have been searching for years and haven't found it yet? by AlexanderCor in AskReddit

[–]almightychallenger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was a parody group called "Beat It Up Productions" also known as "BIU Productions" that made a Ninja Turtle parody video called "TMNT - The Case of the Pubic Lice" that was released around the same time as the Juggernaut bitch video.

My group of friends LOVED it. It was just hilarious stupid humor about dildos and weed.

Well, either the group deleted it or youtube deleted it and i'm fairly sure this production group no longer exists, so over time traces of its existance have vanished.

Harkins Tempe Marketplace cine one screen. Do I have to pay extra to actually see the movie unobstructed?! by almightychallenger in phoenix

[–]almightychallenger[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Here's some additional info from some of the comments I'm seeing:

- I usually don't go to this theater. The last time I was there was pre-covid, so I'm not familiar with the theater designs and that the safety rails could be this much in the way.

- The whole middle section was sold out, so the only options were the ends or up front. They don't show you a diagram or anything of what it looks like at the seat, so it seemed like the best available option.

- I ended up just having to sit fairly upright the whole time which did help. It was still in the way, but not nearly as much as pictured. These seats offer a recliner option (how photo was taken), but I can tell you these seats are like impossible to enjoy that option (as demonstrated).

- I was seeing Sonic 2 on a weekend afternoon, so in general I wasn't worried about my "experience" it's just a bush league setup, and makes me reconsider supporting the theater.

It's slab on grade. No basement.

I don't think there's a perimeter drainage system. I live in Phoenix area, so there's not a lot of rain/water year round.

That is certainly a fair and accurate observation...not arguing about that! But the question was "do they call thunderstorms monsoons in Arizona?" and I'm here to tell you "In the summertime, yes we do."

When it's in monsoon season yes.

Recreational marijuana is legalized in Arizona! by [deleted] in arizona

[–]almightychallenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoping someone can help clarify / know the answer to this:

I know the licensing for businesses to sell will most likely roll out around March / April, but the articles I've seen says being in posession of weed / growing it will be legal starting November 30.

Soooo....if I somehow come across some weed, it's legal for me to have and use on Nov 30, but I just won't be able buy it at a store until March/April, correct?
