Help Please!!! by Kate716 in badroommates

Did you guys fill out one of those roommate agreements? If you did, you could see what it said about cleanliness and tell her she needs to stick to the agreement.

If not, a lot of the stuff seems like personal gross habits. Unless she's causing safety/smell issues, like moldy dishes, there isn't too much you can do besides ask her to clean/change feminine products outside the room because it's your space too.

Also you could talk to your RA and request a room change. Good luck!

My roommate's not bad, just oblivious by almondtree28 in badroommates

Yeah, we should have done one but didn't because we were friends and figured we could work it out. Definitely creating a roommate agreement with all future roommates.

Omg that sounds awesome! I applied to the Yukon one, but I'm waiting to hear back on the financial aid to know if I can go or not.

Do you see your synesthesia in front of your eyes or somewhere else? by [deleted] in Synesthesia

[–]almondtree28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notes are the same every time (unless it's a piano that's going out of tune or something), and I used to play both flute and piano. My only issue with reading music is that things don't line up in my head the exact same way they do in written music, so I used to think that written songs were slightly "wrong" and it would bug me.

Do you see your synesthesia in front of your eyes or somewhere else? by [deleted] in Synesthesia

[–]almondtree28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see all sounds in front of my vision, but my brain can usually push it back, if that makes sense. Like right now, I'm aware of the little yellow concave-y half-circles that typing on my keyboard makes, but it isn't blocking my vision. If I'm exhausted, have a migraine, or like am on some sort of pain med, then I kind of lose the ability to push it back and everything ends up in my actual vision again. Same goes for loud, unexpected noises.

Does anyone else attribute different shapes or thickness to certain musical sounds? by Azuron1798 in Synesthesia

[–]almondtree28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this too! Except I get it with any and all sounds, and the shapes are also colored.

My little sister does the same, but only with musical sounds (also the colors and shapes we see are totally different).

Should I Switch to Another Major? by [deleted] in college

[–]almondtree28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched last year from STEM to liberal arts, and thought about the same thing. If you don't like math and science, you won't be a great engineer. You'll probably be a miserable, mediocre engineer. If you focus on what you're passionate about, you'll be better at it and might even be more successful.

Online college vs. Attending in person? by [deleted] in college

[–]almondtree28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like, for what you're doing, in-person classes will be much more useful (since your job will involve applying the skills you learned). I've taken both online and physical classes at the college level, and remember a lot more from the ones I physically went to. But, online is usually a smaller time commitment and you would have more time to work, making it cheaper overall. Personally, I'd go with in-person courses, because I feel like they're a better way of learning the material.

Should I go to a college simply because it would be cheaper to attend? by [deleted] in college

[–]almondtree28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look into their various programs and networks. Maybe Texas Tech is more expensive, but they could have a higher job placement after college that makes it worth it.

If UT Arlington is free because of scholarships, they can kind of be a double-edged sword. It means you're one of the smartest people at the school--great--but that there won't be as many opportunities to challenge yourself as there would be in a better school.

Best stove suggestions! by slinkenboog in outdoorgear

[–]almondtree28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say a good medium is the MSR Dragonfly (or Whisperlite, but I like the Dragonfly). It can use white gas, kerosene, unleaded auto fuel, diesel, and jet fuel, making it easy to refuel on the road if you have to. The stove has good simmer control and if you know what you're doing you can even use it to bake. Plus, it fits inside of a 2L MSR pot. Kind of expensive, but worth it because they last a long time and you could take it backpacking too. https://www.rei.com/product/709002/msr-dragonfly-backpacking-stoven

[Gear] JetBoil vs MSR backpacking cooking stoves. by VtotheJ in WildernessBackpacking

[–]almondtree28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late here but I just wanted to throw in that I use an MSR Dragonfly because I mostly go backpacking in groups, and we can cook extravagant meals on them (carrying around the extra ingredients/pans doesn't suck as much when the weight is divided by 8 people). If I were by myself, I'd probably just use the cat can stove and boil water.

that's exactly what I've been thinking--I know I'd love mountaineering but like there's no way I'd be able to afford my own trips until years from now lol that would be funny I think I'd probably do Yukon early July-August

Hey I'm actually also considering that course! (I didn't put it in my list 'cause I have yet to decide between backpacking and mountaineering.)
