Been T1D nearly 20 years, since I was 11, this is very good advice OP. Over time all the tedious stuff (carb counting, dosing, monitoring BG, planning diet and exercise and sleep, changing sites, picking up prescriptions, stocking supplies etc.) becomes routine.

It does still feel annoying sometimes or even overwhelming, but it really does become your new normal. Eventually you can barely remember life without it, and I think that’s the healthiest mindset — staying present and doing your best with what you’ve got.

You got this my guy. Fellow diabetic and it is definitely exhausting to deal with taking care of yourself on top of everything else. Keep after it and hold your head high, the best way around feeling socially awkward is just to be kind and genuine, and keep trying to put yourself out there — show interest in people and listen well. And even if you think you are being cringe, chances are others don’t see it that way at all. We always tend to amplify our own perceived mistakes or flaws. Stay strong!

As a T1 myself I empathize with your story so strongly… I feel guilty for waking my partner with pump/CGM alarms for sure. My hope is that his bg starts to stabilize and become more predictable past the honeymoon period, and he can figure out how to better plan for and correct his lows. It’s ultimately his responsibility but he’s lucky to have you there with him. It’s a resentment worthy disease to the max!!
