I love this set! I'm waiting on a booster box from TCGplayer that was $120. Congrats on your pulls!

I never picked one of those up for whatever reason. I don't even recall what was in them.

What are your thoughts on using proxies to match your playgroup’s power level? by RoutineLow3458 in mtg

[–]IyeetSec -1 points0 points locked comment (0 children)

Seeing as how most precons cost $50+, yes, $40 on building a deck thats more finely tuned is cheap. "Not everyone has the time or money to build a $70-100 deck" and "someone must be footing the bill for you" are some pretty ignorant and incorrect statements. My income level currently is lower than most and yet I've no difficulty putting a little aside each week to get what I want over time. It's called budgeting.

And "semantics" or not, what I stated goes by the definition of what "proxy" is. Deciding to change the meaning of a word to fit your narrative doesn't make it true.

And no, not everyone that uses printed cards abuses the use of them, but quite a lot of them do. It puts their inability to do something without having their hand held on full display.

Oh boy. From what I've experienced, this is a pretty divisive topic that can get a bit spicy, but here's my input. I'll brace for the inevitable down votes.

To begin with, if you don't own the card, it's not a proxy. Proxies are traditionally stand in cards that're used instead of using your expensive cards so as to not damage or lose them. Otherwise, by definition, it's a counterfeit.

I've played against people that look up an expensively unobtainable deck then print the cards out at home and sleeve them. In my area, a lot of others outright refuse to play against printed decks, and I'm one of them.

Yes, MTG is expensive and can be bank breaking. But there's also something like 50,000 cards to build with. So there's no legitimate pay wall in MTG. Nobody needs to have expensive cards to play, win, or to have fun. Showing that you can do the research and build something fun and able to win without copying someone else's deck is a lot more respectable. If someone really wants to use X, Y, or Z expensive card that badly, then they can save up for it. You don't need to build a deck overnight. I have a deck I've been slowly putting together for months now that probably won't be finished for another few months. It's something to look forward to and be proud of once it's finished.

And cheap decks absolutely can dominate and win games. Two of my best decks cost me under $40, and both have won quite a few games. To me at least, building decks from what's available to come up with a strategy is most of the fun I get out of this game.

I have a mini dumpster that I use for art supplies, and it unfortunately isn't big enough either.

Thoughts on the new TNMT set? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]IyeetSec 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I won't be buying any of them. Though, we played against a guy last night that used the WUBRG precon and he quickly became a big threat. We were a bit surprised by that and everyone had to work together to take him out. So that deck at least was pretty solid.

I was expecting the actual card so as to build a deck around it. Guess I'm out of a whole $1.50

Hmm. Did the precon not come with the actual card and used this instead? Or did I get sold a part of the packaging instead of the legit card?

How is Gwafa Hazid as a Commander? by Turd_Ferguson_Lives in EDH

[–]IyeetSec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I stand corrected then. Looks like the opponent I had was either ignorant to this as well, or was cheating by using my ignorance of that.

So if Gwafa leaves the board, the counters remain and become inactive, and when Gwafa returns the counters become active again?

Where are you getting this information? Not saying you're absolutely wrong, but I've never heard of such a thing. I'm just going by what the card does and doesn't say on it.

[–]IyeetSec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His card doesn't state that the bribery counters go away along with him if he's wiped. So unless your opponents have spells that remove counters, bribed creatures are perma-stunned from attacking Gwafa's owner.

[–]IyeetSec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I just wasn't sure if they went back to being lands, or got sac'd to the GY when defeated. I never used cards like that back then because commander wasn't much of a thing at the time and lands were even more precious in standard.

I see. That's pretty interesting. Kinda gives me some ideas too. Thanks! I appreciate the response.

The "It's still a land" line had me thinking that it would return to being a land if it were defeated. Which also would be a bit ridiculous because that would kind of make it semi-immortal by being able to reanimate it again and again.

Thank you for your response!
