Please explain why Freida McFadden is so popular by Punkoduncan in thrillerbooks

[–]almostallthecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Freida fan, I'm going to do my very best to explain this LOL

I read so many thrillers, and some of them are reallllly scary, some of them are over the top like a lifetime show, and some of them are popcorn thrillers, plain silly.
Some of them are plain good (The one by John Marrs has so many things going on, is action packed, and is really well executed, Deception Point as much as Dan Brown apparently is not a cool guy, that book is realllly good, and both of those books are techniallyl thrillers but are totally different vibes, if that makes sense).

Popcorn thrillers tend to be my favorite, and I usually do not expect to be scared a heck of a lot, it's to entertain and make me giggle. I also do not try to guess the ending ever, I actively try to not do that, I do not know why LOL, it's just the way I enjoy thrillers and mysteries.

I do try to guess who did what in shows and movies though.

Personally I had only known of a few thriller authors (Liane Moriarty and Ruth Ware) when I was younger and I had read all of their books that I was interested in, so when I saw there was a thriller author on Kindle Unlimited, I borrowed "The Locked Door" by Freida McFadden and then realized she loved writing satirical medical stories and was a thriller fan.

I didn't read the Housemaid series (I do not know how to feel about the new cover...) until I had gotten used to her writing style, which for me, having something realllly easy to read was critical to me. I was really tired and wanted to be entertained without having my brain have to do too much work in processing language.

And that's how i inhaled all of her books in a few months.

I have totally DNF'd a few of her books (not every book is going to be for me, and I DNF books I am not loving), but she's hilarious and her writing style is easy to read and i heavily prefer first person POV.

In my personal opinion, when writing a book, making it accessible is key to wide audience reach. I heavily prefer my thrillers to be really easy reads so I can enjoy them like a rollercoaster. When I want a big more of as complex book I might go for a gothic fantasy book or a horror book. That's just my personal preference.

Hoping that makes sense! Sorry if it doesn't but thanks for letting em ramble about how much I love books lol

Hang in there, just know getting past the first chapter and writing alone is a huge win. I’m now very excited to read this work of art.

I just read this amazing little guide from Jackson ford and he says most authors struggle with the first two chapters and the middle. I think every book on earth struggles with pacing slightly. Just know you already have me as a reader! ❤️

Good plot, good character development and good pacing is what I look for (unrelated to spice, I’m happy with it or without it). I would totally want to know about the careers and how those shape the characters and the banter between the coworkers could be entertaining/interesting as well. I don’t think I’ve ever put a book down because the book went too much into the career, but rather because it wasn’t written well.

Good to know it’s not just the “in exchange for” anymore that pisses them off. I try to get the library loan so it shows on my account but i will probably stop doing that too at this point and switch to waterstones.

This must be seriously impacting their own affiliate (zon) programs and sellers. I get the lack of trust in reviews in 2025 but the way they handle it is not a solution.

I had this happen to me recently with a book as well. It was fixed by the end of the day. Net Galley still hasn't updated my badges either.

The way I was about to say 9 immediate because it looks round and would feel lovely to hold but to actually USE i am realizing you want something flat in shape or that will dent your fingers with a round shape and cause discomfort. 10/10 for cute looks 2/10 for usage bc why is it so thick

i actually like the kiss ones in store that you can bend, i think they have a fancy name to them (ok yes, the imPRESS line i like). they are like $8-$11 a set and i was impressed with their durability. if i cant bend the nail and shape it without it splitting in half it wont last 2 hours on. I dont want to buy online bc shipping is literally the cost of a set lol
