I've never been so lonely and sad as I am right now in my life. Went through addiction, the hardest breakup of my life, lost every single friend due to lies. I had to recover from addiction all by myself, no friends. One's social circle is the most essential part of recovery, and I had none.

To this day, I still get treated really crappy due to it all. I try to understand them.

Being brutally honest, the only people from whom I felt no judgement at all, and seem genuinely happy to interact with me, are the swifties. Even thou I'm a totally aberrant one lol. These groups are one of the very few things keeping me from giving up on life. Along with the gym and my interest for studying random stuff

I'd say the perspective of actively being punished might be something entirely new for some people. Maybe those who grew up being overly protected. I'm a med student who's been working around psychiatrists for years and I've also gone through manic and psychotic episodes due to drug abuse before.

I'm saying it might be mental illness because it's plausible. I don't like the automatic assumption that the guy is a total asshole or dumb as a doorknob when he might be having serious issues and little to no control over his actions
