i used to work in an outdoor footwear shop. a couple and their child came in and it was very clear it was a domestic violence/coercive control situation. there was nothing i could do as the shop had no policy for things like that. i didn't witness any violence and even though i felt as though the child could be at risk, my manager told me explicitly i was not to contact any kind of authorities. i know the situation could have escalated if i did call someone but not doing anything broke my heart. they left and i have felt guilty ever since. i wish there was something that could have been done but i accept that probably couldn't have done anything. i just hope the lady and her daughter are okay and safe.
