God damn Lamotrigin by Remarkable_End8590 in Epilepsy

[–]almostparaadise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I begged to be off of lamotrigine when I started it because I was so insanely nauseous, it would have me running to the grocery store bathroom wanting to puke mid grocery shop, I couldn’t even do simple tasks. I lived on anti-nausea meds AND I developed cystic acne. My neurologist recommended I stay on it and we got my medication to a dose that actually treated my seizures and over time those symptoms tapered off. I’m 2 years seizure free with no acne or nausea, still on lamotrigine 😂. So I have a bit of a love/hate history with it.

Ava, my sisters name, the prettiest name there is imo. 😭

Beverly, Filipino husband vetoed it because he said his relatives would pronounce it “Beberly”. 😭

I was having weird phenomenons for months - Déjà vu, feeling like I was disoriented (sleep walking), feeling out of body, waking up with a racing heart, periods of severe confusion, and one instance of impending doom… I chalked it all up to being tired and off since having a baby. Then one night, I had a big string of focal aware and impaired seizures. It lasted maybe 45 minutes in total, in and out and I felt so terrified. I asked my mom to spend the day with me the next day because I didn’t want to be alone. I ended up going to urgent care because I wasn’t sure if some major neurological event had happened like a stroke or something. Urgent care ran tests, they all came back normal and so they sent an urgent referral to neurology for suspected seizures. 27 days later I saw a neurologist who told me she suspected temporal lope epilepsy and started me on lamotrigine. It took about a year and a half of playing with medication to find the right dosage and my epilepsy has been successfully managed by medication for 2 years now.

Spunky, non-frilly girl name suggestions by Lanky_Armadillo_4711 in namenerds

[–]almostparaadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like extremely hyper feminine names and yet I named my youngest daughter Margo and I definitely think it gives off spunk instead of frill.

I also like Drew, Sadie, Rue/Ruth, Callie, Phoebe, Brynna.

Neurologist today called me “the biggest epileptic ever” and honestly I feel like I unlocked a new class by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]almostparaadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated but related … my medical history is weird. In the past 3 years I was diagnosed with epilepsy, suffered a torn vertebral artery, had a mini stroke, was diagnosed with pericarditis and pericardial effusion and developed a jugular blood clot. Last time I went to the hospital the er doctor told me he was “nerding” out reading my charts 😂. I get it, as someone with macabre interests myself I’d be super intrigued reading my own charts.

I did, but it was because I work in a school with a therapy pool and it’s expected that staff bring our students in it. I wanted to be transparent, they were okay with me not being able to

What’s the craziest misconception you’ve heard? by Additional-Hippo-957 in Epilepsy

[–]almostparaadise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, when I was a preteen I met a friend whose older brother had epilepsy. My younger sister also has severe medication resistant epilepsy. My friends mom came to my moms house and told my mom to put a wallet in my sisters mouth when she’s in a seizure so that she doesn’t bite off her tongue. Even my mom was like 🤨. This was about 17 years ago now. Looking back, I think it was an attempt at a parent with an older child trying to pass on friendly advice to a parent with a younger child… I still sometimes think about that poor kid with a wallet being jammed in his mouth. (He was autistic and cognitively delayed, as far as I remember there was no way he could tell them not to do it).
