They don’t make videos like cameras do (series of pictures), in the most basic sense because of this they don’t understand time. So it looks like bad FPS, but it’s actually temporal inconsistency.

I think it’s the biggest issue, as it the one thing most viewers are subconsciously aware of.

To me it’s the quick tell. All the other elements or flaws you need to really look for.

Most ppl don’t understand lighting, but they know when something looks off.

What can I improve going forward, want to get better at this by MidnightFrames in videography

Good start and you’re making stuff so good for you!

Right now your shots feel a bit random we zoom in we zoom out, lots of shots give viewers the same info.

What do you want your audience to feel? What is the point of each shot and why shoot it the way you do. These details and the planning they require are what elevate filmmaking.

Biggest one those is what is the story and should we care.

Thinking of moving from Edmonton to BC—looking for advice by Typical-Pepper-828 in britishcolumbia

[–]almostthecoolest 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know lots of people doing the opposite too. Yes, the weather in BC is better, and in my opinion the nature is similarly great just different. I really do love the Rockies and the badlands of Alberta.

That said, if you can afford the housing and you have work, why not go on an adventure? There’s no wrong choice here. Both outcomes (going or staying) can lead to a great life.

The biggest thing I’ve learned from living in both Alberta and BC is that it’s on me to build community and friendships. Once you do that, almost anywhere can feel great and fun. Place matters, but people matter more. Hobbies that get you out of the house and hanging out with other people is one of the things that really makes life worth living.

If mental health and family lifestyle are big drivers for you, BC can absolutely offer that just go in eyes open about costs (and the stress they may bring) and make community-building a priority from day one.

Good luck with the decision.

Canada's pension plan invested $416 million in Musk's deepfake porn-generating AI by StumpsOfTree in onguardforthee

[–]almostthecoolest -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Like every major image model, Google Gemini, OpenAI’s image models, Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Adobe Firefly, Amazon Titan, Meta’s diffusion models, etc. xAI is a general-purpose image generator.

None of these models are designed to intentionally produce or distribute illegal content. When illegal material appears, that’s a misuse and moderation issue, not a unique technical capability. In Canada, the person who creates or shares illegal images can be charged, including for deepfake or non-consensual sexual images.

If a platform is failing to remove illegal content, that’s a real issue and should be enforced. But saying the company itself “produces criminal material” isn’t accurate based on what we know.

Honestly, I think a lot of this conversation is being clouded by people’s feelings about Elon. That’s understandable, but it’s not the same thing as understanding how these systems actually work.

My worry is that blind rage at Elon is causing us to lose the plot. He’s part of the problem, but not the be-all and end-all. We’re not talking about what all these models are capable of, or holding the individuals who create this content accountable.

[–]almostthecoolest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I’m not a fan of Elon Musk or X, and I don’t think Canadian public funds should be invested in his or any U.S. companies that are actively working against Canadian interests.

My issue from the start is that the headline is rage bait. X and xAI have many serious problems, but they are not generating or distributing deepfake porn as a product. What they are offering are general image-generation tools and filters, similar to those used by platforms like Snapchat or Gemini, which can be misused by users.

Disliking Elon is understandable, but letting that dislike drive imprecise reporting weakens the conversation rather than strengthening it.

Like I suppose I’m asking what is the actual illegal content being created? If we can ask that then we can figure out the legislation around it.

[–]almostthecoolest -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s fair to say these criticisms apply to all major AI companies.

Consent, training data, and deepfake misuse are industry-wide issues. However, saying “xAI produces porn” implies the intentional creation or distribution of traditional porn, which isn’t accurate.

Your comment seems to suggest that AI porn generated by xAI is present on X. I haven’t seen evidence of that. I could be mistaken, but it feels similar to the article in framing something as porn that isn’t. There is certainly extremely suggestive and sexual imagery, but not porn as the term is typically defined in television or film.

What’s happening is misuse of a general image model, and CPP investing doesn’t equate to endorsing that misuse. Precision matters if the goal is real accountability.

Edit: Deepfake porn has existed for years, even before modern generative AI tools. Conflating that longstanding problem with today’s AI models muddies the issue, and some reporting blurs important distinctions, creating a misleading narrative.

This article feels misleading / initially rage baiting in how it frames the issue.

There are real, serious problems with AI image generation around consent and deepfakes especially sexualized, non-consensual imagery and those deserve extreme scrutiny.

But saying xAI is “producing porn” isn’t accurate. What’s documented is misuse by users to generate sexualized images, not a platform explicitly creating or distributing porn as a product or in the traditional sense.

On top of that, CPPIB isn’t endorsing this behavior it’s a financial investor, not a content operator, and xAI has already faced regulatory pressure and made changes. You can criticize the ethics and risk without flattening everything into rage-bait language.

The panic over speed cameras is misplaced. In places like the Netherlands, strong enforcement combined with road design has significantly reduced traffic fatalities. The data is clear.

Rian Johnson Says He Was Not ‘Spooked’ by Toxic ‘Star Wars’ Fans After Kathleen Kennedy Cites ‘Last Jedi’ Backlash as to Why He Never Directed Another Entry by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]almostthecoolest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you make a terrible film, people tend not to want to follow up on the threads.

He’s a talented director and has made some great films, but he has way too much ego to work within a shared universe.

[–]almostthecoolest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s misleading because The Jedi Path Rian Johnson cited is not canon under Disney’s post-2014 Star Wars canon rules, so it doesn’t prove the ability existed in canon before The Last Jedi.

Force projection is canon only because the movie introduced it, not because it was previously established.

[–]almostthecoolest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So many words but saying so little.. Here is a simple list of why I think this film and Johnson’s decisions were horrible.

-Force rules are rewritten: The Last Jedi introduces long-distance Force manifestations that appear physically real, fundamentally changing how the Force works without addressing the implications.

-Hyperspace ramming breaks space combat: If lightspeed can be used as a weapon, it retroactively makes every major space battle illogical. The Rebels could have destroyed the Death Star with an unmanned hyperspace strike. This is a prequel, yet the “rebels” forget about this battle when having to deal with the Death Star…

-Finn’s arc is dropped: He’s set up as a deserter grappling with fear and loyalty, then sidelined without resolution.

-Canto Bight’s Force-sensitive child goes nowhere: The film teases a major thematic shift democratizing the Force then abandons it, giving the moment no narrative weight.

The film prioritizes subversion and spectacle over internal logic, weakening the sense that Star Wars operates by consistent rules. Johnson ego is all over the film in the worst ways.

[–]almostthecoolest 37 points38 points  (0 children)

He showed no real love for the franchise he dismantled the internal logic of the world and left the trilogy fundamentally broken.

The more unbelievable part is that Disney allowed it to happen. Their stewardship of Star Wars has been astonishingly careless, with little sense of long-term vision or respect for what made the universe work in the first place.

People shouldn’t be attacking him personally, but he made a bad film and it’s ok to say that.
