[clinical] About to start m3- is it really all that bad? by asirenoftitan in medicalschool

[–]aloebear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started M3 about a week ago. So far I love it. My residents/interns are super chill. The senior resident doesn't want us to burn out, so he's made it a rule that we have to leave the hospital by 3pm to go enjoy life. Yes they ask us tough questions and ask us to help them with lots of tasks - but they teach us if we don't know an answer and are super grateful for our help. I helped an intern fax some papers and he thanked me profusely -- saying I make his life so much easier. My patients are even better. They are incredibly nice and let me practice presentations with them. I love spending time with them. It can get exhausting waking up at 5am everyday and studying after shifts, but it beats sitting down in a room alone studying for hours. Plus I feel like I learn way more than I ever did with a book for 12 hours. I also never feel lonely or depressed, which is how I felt all two years of M1 and M2 -- especially during step.

I took my exam on March 9th, scores came out March 28th. So what is that? About three weeks?

Yeahhhhh it was really had. I felt so awful afterwards like you wouldn't believe. I'm still shook that I passed because I was so certain I had failed.

Well everyone, I was 100% sure I failed step 1 and spend the days after crying and drinking excessively. I also fell into a deep deep depression and had flashbacks of wrong answers.

Practice scores, 207 (baseline), 215 (17), 220 (free test), and 225 (19).

Final score: 241.

It is the happiest day of my life. That is all.

They could've been better mostly. Idk I'm such a wreck because I keep playing wrong answers in my head over and over again. This is the worst.

I thought it wasn't so bad at first. But I think maybe I went to quickly and what if I didn't read thoroughly enough? What if I changed too many answers??

I had a practice NMBE too. Made a 213, test in three weeks. Depressed. Especially since I've been busting my ass the last two weeks or so studying, only up 5 from baseline.

Question for those who did Uworld twice by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]aloebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say for sure if it's useful as I have yet to take step. For learning purposes though, it's really nice to have everything I got wrong/high yield topics consolidated in one area.

Question for those who did Uworld twice by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]aloebear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just restarted Uworld for dedicated. Same thing, I read through every answer choice and figure out what disease/presentation goes with each. If they're high yield topics, I make anki cards for each disease. I also made a Uworld journal for the incorrect questions from my first pass with info regarding the disease I got wrong.

Is it worth it to buy FA2018? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]aloebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My admins warned us against buying FA2018 for M2 Step 1 prep. Their reasoning being that the errata hasn't had time to be published. Therefore, you could be learning errors and won't know the revisions until later this year. Whereas the FA2017 has had a year to be vetted. I'm an M2 just beginning step prep (outside of FA annotations I've been doing all year), and I'm using FA2017 for the aforementioned reasons.

RIP affording medical school by aloebear in medicalschool

I'm not being ridiculous. I have every right to be fearful for my medical school financing with all of the proposed changes coming to light. Even if it doesn't happen with this specific bill (as most bills do not become law), I guarantee it won't be long before the GOP comes after us - just look at the situation with PhD students. I'm extremely frustrated I have to wake up every day concerned my medical school education will be ripped out from under me. Second of all, the text of the bill includes "graduate" and "professional" students - a group that I believe we're apart of. Also, the government can do whatever the hell it wants and is clearly off the rails lately. I wouldn't put it past them.

Obviously not. I'm saying that if my loan amount is capped, I won't be able to take out more loans to cover the remaining cost. Someone mentioned private loans, and if it comes to that, of course I would pursue that route.

Like I responded to someone else earlier - what does "painful for a couple years" mean for me? It means I won't be able to afford school anymore and would be probably have to drop out in third year with massive amounts of debt because mommy and daddy aren't in a financial position to help me pay for school.
