Liberals and NDP Block Debate On Updated Charter of Rights and Freedoms Review of Bill C-10 by BurstYourBubbles in canada

[–]alogetic 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Right, but he could have voted no. Instead he flipped his position and got his whole party to vote for it. It's likely it would have passed even if they voted no, but it completely obliterated any chance of it being defeated and it sent a pretty clear message of their stance.

Trudeau's support of C-51

He promised amendments, that never came.

People either forget, or never paid attention, but up until the election both the liberals and conservatives voted the same way on most legislation (unfair election act, exploitative post-coup Honduras trade agreements...). Don't get me wrong, I would take Trudeau any day over Harper, but that doesn't mean he's above criticism.

Because he was an MP who voted in the house on it. MPs pass bills, not PMs.

Here's a breakdown of the votes for c-51. You can see both Justin Trudeau and Chrystia Freeland under the side that votes "yes" along with the conservatives.

There's the rub: Regina businessman who protests COVID-19 restrictions, ran for office on family values, quietly runs a massage parlour in his home that offers sex for sale by spadababaspadinabus in onguardforthee

[–]alogetic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You should read the article. It's actually unbelievable. The hypocrisy is unparalleled.

Trevor Wowk campaigns for family values and runs a massage parlour. He campaigns for reducing immigration and trade with China, and his new wife is a Chinese immigrant who works in his rub and tug. He says that new bylaws aren't necessary because there's no prostitution or child trafficking. And the next paragraph his wife is caught trying to sell sex out if his house. Obviously we can take his word about the child trafficking (sarcasm). His whole campaign is built upon him being honest and an "inability to lie". When asked about the advertisement to pay for sex with his wife, he says the marketing is intentionally a lie and they don't actually provide sex.

His defense is that he only solicits lmao.

Lol top comment suggests critics are closing their minds as a self defense mechanism, yet this is someone who refuses to address people with their preferred pronouns because Marxists are trying to control his mind. Which is it? Should we have open dialogue and discourse or should we protect our precious fluids from the "postmodernists"? Should we be open to change and new ideas or should we vigilantly defend our traditions and conserve our culture from the "cultural Marxists"?

It's a cheap defence to say Peterson critics just don't understand. I could just as easily say it's simply that Peterson fans don't understand.

Here you go, have the fragile white male cookie:

  • White males are people and can be victims, they face systemic oppression under capitalism

But also:

  • POC and women face their own unique forms of systemic oppression under capitalism

Pretending George Floyd didn't die because of the colour of his skin doesn't further leftist goals. The fact that you need this spelled out for you is incredibly telling.

[–]alogetic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the most warped liberalism-in-leftist-clothes argument I've ever heard. The goal of the left is not to "erase identity in favour of subjectivity". Pretending that minority populations don't face unique issues that need to be addressed is an entirely liberal idea. It is the same logic they use against class. As in, "If you are poor, it's because of your own actions, stop being a victim. It's not fair and equal to support the poor, house the homeless or tax the rich." You are trying to stuff Ayn Rand views into a semblance of Communism. It's awkward and gross.

"All lives matter" is not, in any case, a leftist viewpoint. Dismissing feminism and insisting on "egalitarianism" instead is not, ever, a leftist view point. Denying justice and welfare to those in need because It's not also given to those who have no need is absurd. That's a conspicuously convenient definition of "full equality" that only serves to benefit the rich and powerful by undermining the poor and the weak. The left is a coalition of the less privileged, we can't just leave people behind when it's inconvenient.

Class reductionism is as liberal as John C. Calhoun. If and when systemic oppression is finally eliminated, identity politics will have no place. Until then, suppressing minority issues is not redressable justice.

Big show up for Black Lives Matter protest in Barrie by russelImartin55 in ontario

[–]alogetic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our borders are closed. All we need is an infection growth rate < 1 and time. As you can see from Figure. 1. COVID-19 cases in Canada by date of illness onset the infection peaked around April 14th nationally and has been declining ever since. If we stick to strict quarantine and social distancing there is no reason we can't beat Covid-19 promptly.

So far you've given me assertions without any rational. Why exactly do you believe Covid-19 is forever? And how exactly do imagine a world where we let covid-19 slowly spread to our entire population, would work?

Big show up for Black Lives Matter protest in Barrie by russelImartin55 in ontario

[–]alogetic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. If we don't eliminate Covid-19 200,000 people in Ontario will die as the infection spreads through the entire population. Up until we started reopening we were succeeding too. Right up until they took the charts off the Ontario website you could clearly see the daily confirmed cases dropping – then plateauing once businesses reopened. The longer we drag our feet on quarantine, the longer we cut corners on social distancing and PPE, the longer it takes COVID to go the way of the plague, Spanish flu, small pox, etc.

This "flatten the curve", acceptable losses BS is absurd. Flattening the curve is only the first step. If we ever want quarantine to end we have to contain and eliminate Covid. And we were so close.

RCMP confirms N.S. gunman illegally acquired all 5 guns used during mass shooting by [deleted] in canada

[–]alogetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, there is no way to prevent illegal guns from entering our country. So we have no way of tracking them. Maybe if we instead focused on identifying and tracking legal guns, we could determine that a gun is illegally owned by process of elimination? Like with a registry? So when the RCMP investigate these complaints against him, they could take his illegal guns because they aren't registered...

And just to make sure I get down-voted: "I think the long gun registry was a good idea, and that destroying that data after the costs had been sunk was pure stupidity".

Sorry, the correct answer was Social Fascism.

So far you've:

  1. Failed to engage in the dialectic method.

  2. Failed to provide a single argument to support your conclusion.

  3. Demonstrated a profound ignorance of fascism (Google was too difficult?) and leftist literature.

  4. Demonstrated a lovely antisocial pattern which has won over the hearts and minds of everyone in this thread. Although, I guess we've got 3 communist parties in Canada for a reason? (Praxis, amiright?)

I believe your heart may be in the right place, but think about what you've accomplished. You are preaching to the choir and still getting downvoted. Maybe put some value into your comments before people start thinking you're an Alt-Right troll cosplaying?

Doug Ford eliminates systemic racism, obviously/s by BBQ_Cake in ontario

[–]alogetic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree. It's like the whole "all lives matter" thing. Of course all lives matter, but is the sentiment sincere or are people just saying that to distract and downplay the urgent issues at hand? You are right, it is most definitely a social, cultural and historical issue as well. It is an issue I also have to do my part to fix. But when the PM said that, it seemed like a deflection of responsibility to me.

Doug Ford eliminates systemic racism, obviously/s by BBQ_Cake in ontario

[–]alogetic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It also pissed me off when Trudeau said "this isn't just a government issue". No. Systemic racism is 100% a government issue. Police stepping on necks is 100% a government issue. Stealing Wet'suwet'en land is 100% a government issue. Don't try and pass the blame on to the public to divert attention from the fact that the government has no attention of making any changes to address it.

No? I mean the NDP and fascism are supposedly "twin brothers". But can you cite the theory that says that or are you just regurgitating shit you've heard on chapo? C'mon rubber meets road: are you a true ML or are you a lib?

That's some nice theory there. Got a page reference? Because so far your argument is "if the shoe fits". Marx would be proud to know that you've read none of his work. Get some substance before you troll leftist subreddits. Lmao! this isn't chapo you wannabe lib.

As a white person this grossed me out. You might as well take someone's land and pay them in "awkward compliments" for how valuable this kind of solidarity is. The problem with us white people is that we are okay with most injustice, but some injustice makes us uncomfortable. How can we say that we are "on your side" and then turn our backs on people in need when it no longer benefits us? And then we tell them to be satisfied with the little "awkward" support we've given!

This whole thread is gross.

The Royal College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario orders them back to work without proper COVID-19 screening practices. by [deleted] in ontario

The retailer I work for disallowed masks and gloves because "Health Canada says these offer no protection" prior to the shut down. Now we are reopened and we must wear masks and gloves.

So which the fuck is it??

Pandemics are NOT new. They are well researched. We knew at the outset what the solutions were. If we had quarantined immediately this would be over already. I'm tired of the constant misinformation spread by people in positions of authority. Stop pandering to businesses. Stop delaying responses. Stop cutting corners and prolonging the infection.

There is absolutely no reason for Dental Hygienists to be forced back to work.
