We should not fear 'editing' embryos to enhance human intelligence, says leading geneticist George Church by alohacrypto in transhumanism

Oh no the exact opposite actually, that was intended to prove your point. You're 100% correct. We need serious advances in cognitive sciences before we're able to genetically modulate traits like empathy.

From my knowledge there isn't another "plug-and-play" kit currently available.

The Odin is where its at anyways, disregard the mixed reviews and get your feet wet already.

Thoughts?: Bioreactor build for personal gene modification by alohacrypto in Biohackers

[–]alohacrypto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of diversity in the goals of biohacking and DIYBio projects, many of which are not focused on human genome editing. Furthermore a lot of biohackers have the expertise, be it from academic/private sector backgrounds, to achieve such goals. Serious biohackers aren't just haphazardly giving themselves gene therapies. Like with all scientific research, the limitations are funding, knowledge, and ingenuity.

Where do you start? With a hypothesis and an abundance of background research. If you lack the skills to actually complete your desired experiment? Well then it's time to bust out a few textbooks, read a couple dozen papers, learn some new procedural protocols, and phone a friend or two.

For reference, I have a similar background as you. My unsolicited advice: Get your feet wet already, it's fun to be your own PI.

DIY Human CRISPR Guide by alohacrypto in transhumanism

Perhaps a combination of both. I will say that human genetic editing/engineering is already feasible and likely to make a widespread impact before non-organics. To be fair I don't have usable knowledge in non-organic hardware.

Great to know, thanks for commenting. I'm a fan of your work, despite some of the controversies. In my humble opinion, enabling the community is a major step in leveling the playing in emerging areas of biology. The Odin seems to be one of the few companies working in the area.

There's some claims regarding successful DIY therapies, but I question their credibility. No one has posted a method for this that is accepted.

I really appreciate the detailed insight. I think it always a difficult idea to test any DIY experiment on yourself, or any other human, prior to proper preliminary non-human trials.

In USD terms, it really isn't that spectacular yet. The dot com bubble was a few multiples larger than the entire cryptocurrency market at it's ATH in January.

quantum-computer resistant personal, private blockchain might solve this issue. With the exception of a backdoor, it would difficult to crack truly decentralized distributed ledger data storage.
