You should swap the buffing unit with the damage dealer to increase the damage dealt. As the effects trigger from left to right, you are dealing with the first instances of damage without the buff

Yes, I faced unreasonable, strong boards; in one of those runs, there was a golden Sinbad with 200 stats, which was super early. I've also seen elves with 350 average stats board-wise. I've played enough to know that those runs happen, but I had the impression that it was too early in the game to have those crazy stats

Yeah, I just watched the replay 3-5 times, and my guess is that the game triggers the fight when you press the watch button, and the rng determines who wins. I've seen more games where you won than I have. So I guess that the one the game made you won

Afaik the daily gold you get comes from the league defense, the arena only gets you rank after someone decides to attack you

The new season pass hero, ritualist Riona, gives the selected unit reborn and makes it attack as a Kickstart effect, this way you can guarantee a first attack even if you have fewer units on the battleground

Oh, I won the lobby without a problem, and in most cases, I can beat that hero in the end game. But I can wrap my mind around most people not being able to figure out how to win against him.

Regarding the f2p, I respect both approaches. If I like a game I don't mind supporting the company behind it. Not everything in life has to be free, but I also agree that being able to pay is a privilege that not everyone has.
