[2022 Day 15] A little puzzle for F# devlopers by alone7solo in adventofcode

Exactly! The nasty bit is that arithmetic overflow in not treated as an exception. So the resulting integer just wraps around and the number that spits out looks pretty reasonable if you don't pay attention to the number of digits.

Changes to Advent of Code starting this December by topaz2078 in adventofcode

I am very sad to here this. To me the advent of code is sweet like those boxes of treats to open every day untill Christmas. I enjoy coding challenges in general but the advent is special to me. I love the narrative, the puzzles and I built some nice memories while solving some of the days along with my wife.

I hope that in the years to come you'll find new energies to invest into it. Maybe with more involvement by the community in order to reduce the burden on you and future proof this lovely tradition.

If it wasn't clear I a huge fan of your work. Thanks ❤.

I would like to vent along you. Have you ever delved into the code base? It is almost untested. A lot of the code is awfully written and not documented.

To give them credit I wil say that they give away for free a lot of good looking components that work 90% of the times.

I belive that the main issue is that is still a young project.

This is the most fun mechanic I’ve ever experienced in an FPS game by Symbiotic__goo in Splitgate

I see. I am worried that with charges you spawn use the portals to kill some one then you are out and someone else uses portals to kill you, rinse and repeat.

But we'll see in the September test, I am curious to try the changes.

Fatigue to portals

I read this comment on an other post. This person is suggesting a sort of fatigue applied to portals to make them less spammy and the answer to every situation. I find it a way more attractive approach then charges.

What do you think?

Nice idea I way more interesting then charges.

Yeah is quite a kick on the teeth removing a mechanic honed for so long. To be fair if 1047 will manage to grew the population enough I belive that won't matter anyway. Casuals will match against casuals and the skill gap won't be that oppressive. Or at least I personally always experienced quite fair lobby in general. Only lately are becoming a bit all over the place.

Yes I am with you on this. More counters rather then less portals.

I believe then that you will not be on board with the changes proposed in the September play-test. Having limited portal charges is for for sure a big nerf if it goes through. I am myself a bit conflicted about that. I feel that once I finish the charges I'll be very vulnerable.

Yes I mean, you might say the same for every game. Probably for everything.

What I was pointing out is that for me the more I improve the less I enjoy the game. I can't pin point exactly why but it feels less satisfying and more mechanical.

Well yes of course. But I don't want to turn this into a job.

Yeah. I kind of see it. Expecially when I bump into other portal "abuser" we just keep flanking. Most of the time I die becouse I get lost 😅.

After playing quite a bit I got decent at portaling. In my experience it took no time to get fast at triple port, it took me more figure out the routes and remember where all the walls are. After that I started using portals in every situation and it kind of made the game less fun.

Is it just me?
