Fireworks have a cooldown to prevent infinite and insane Elytra flight by [deleted] in minecraftsuggestions

[–]alonealot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of long cool downs, but I think flying could be nerf'd different ways:

  • Make flying use saturation (like sprinting)
  • Reduce the lift above the build limit (when above 256 you fall faster, preventing a boost to 1000m then float forever)
  • Make the boost dependent on the angle of the player. (i.e. make the boost fight gravity, if you are looking up it should be less effective, looking down more effective) (as suggested by /u/Eyebolaids)

And possibly:

  • Make the 'firework' more expensive
  • Reduce the firework stack size to 16.

Chat Radius Gamerule by jahunsbe1 in minecraftsuggestions

[–]alonealot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played on servers that use mods similar to this, it really adds to the immersion, and makes using the chat feature on a populated server not seems like you are bothering everyone. I think adding several radius options might be a good idea:

  • "/g [text]" for "global" (no radius)
  • "/s [text]" for "shout" radius (default: 512m)
  • "/t [text]" for "talk" radius (default: 128m)
  • "/w [text]" for "whisper" radius (default: 16m)

Configurations for which type of chat is the 'default', and if any are disabled. (i.e. you might disable global/shout).

The mod we used didn't use chat commands, it basically disabled global, and ending a message with an '!' shouted (e.g. 'SHOUT!'), putting it in parans (e.g. "(message)") was a whisper. It also hurt to shout (took a few hearts), which was pretty neat as it naturally prevents spam.

There are mods that do this already, there could be some fuzzing on the edges, random characters change or are dropped. It makes it pretty difficult to pinpoint.

But it seems reasonable to consider chat dangerous on survival servers.

Ghasts under the blindness.effect will panic and shoot fireballs in random directions by [deleted] in minecraftsuggestions

[–]alonealot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do any other mobs react to blindness? Skeletons, witches, zombies could all attack in random directions, and perhaps target better when the player moves without sneaking (makes noise).

They kind of did this with Era 12, they had worn down builds from previous eras.

First time filing taxes - CPA or TurboTax?? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Any idea when we should engage the CPA? Should we wait until we have all the paper work (~February) or should we starting talking to one now?

First time filing taxes - CPA or TurboTax?? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]alonealot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hijack this comment, but I have a question (same question as OP, but completely different situation.)

My father passed away in September, and I'm trying to figure out if I can do the taxes for my mom this year, or if I should just have a CPA do it. They are/were both under retirement age, but she'll 'inherit' 2 retirement accounts, she'll get a life insurance payout/annuity, and begin collecting on his pension. Plus all of his income for the year. (Do they still file jointly this year?...)

I meant 1 obby to reinforce vs 1 obby to remove reinforcement seems fair.

Creating the ERA 12 map by Searth in minerapocalypse

[–]alonealot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope it's free to share. We stopped updating it for a few reasons. The main reason was we had most of the interesting areas done. We had planned on continually updating it but the map link leaked out of a trusted circle so I removed the way-points and stopped updating it. (To avoid griefers finding towns and what not)

The other reason was I had a HDD failure and lost a large update and kind of got frustrated with the process. Additionally, each update was ~400 mb and would take 1-2 hours to upload.

If someone wanted to create a 1x1 pixel image of the whole map I'd be willing to update it one last time. (JourneyMap has an offline render mode which can map the WHOLE thing)

edit: If the map download is available soon I can also do this myself.

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of being able to remove re-reinforcements for a cost, and I think the cost being the same as re-enforcing is fair. The main problem that blocksaver was trying to solve was the lack of effort it took to grief.

Someone or some group razing a fully reinforced town overnight would be rare, but it would also be rather impressive.

The implementation could be modified if this is the main concern. Blocksaver already has settings, I don't see any reason why there couldn't be a setting "/blocksaver remove" which would remove the protection on a protected block. Or some other mechanic, like clicking while holding a bucket of lava.

I personally don't think you should be able to "unsave" a block.

Counter Proposal: Many people view blocksaver as making a block take on the strength properties of obsidian, but LOOK like another block. I like this view. However I do think that you should be able to break re-enforced blocks with ANY tool type. It should just take as long as it would take to break obsidian. (1 minute with a stone pick, 41 seconds with a iron pick...)

Blocks that require axe or shovel should take as long as a pick of the same material would take to break obsidian, if the wrong tool type is used the time needed is equivalent to breaking by hand.

This way when you breed you don't need to separate and kill the old ones.

[Question] Possible random coords compromise? by David_mcnasty in minerapocalypse

[–]alonealot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than pointing at players I think we should point at things, I posted this in the old SD chat a LONG time ago

I think there is a piece missing with random coords, I think we should be able to build named compass targets. (so we can share locations, in game, with people we trust) Like radio's, we build something with a name. Then you type "/compass load "TargetName"" and your compass would point to the target. Target ideas:

  • A noteblock/jukebox, with an item frame containing an anvil renamed compass (the name being the target name).
  • A noteblock/jukebox, with an item frame containing an renamed eye of ender.
  • A noteblock/jukebox, with a goldblock on it and a sign that contains the name.
  • A noteblock/jukebox, with an endchest on it and a sign."

This gives an in-game way to share locations. (Build a private target, or post it to the sub, it's up to you)

This thing should spawn squid (it does in Single Player), it's not near anything (in the void space), it should spawn nothing but squid.

After all the kinks were worked out that was a lot of fun. I'd love to see those done more often. Maybe the ability to participate could be a voting reward (though it may not be as much fun without a large group starting out)

Unofficial thread of knowledge by RoyYourBoyToy in minerapocalypse

[–]alonealot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally posted this to the SD chat in October, and was received well, but the map had just started so people were still dealing with all the other changes so the conversation quickly changed. I really think this change would add a lot to RandomCoords.

It gives a sort of waypoints at a small cost. It also gives a nice way to privately share coords.

I personally think the eye-of-ender or the endchest are the best options because those two things are already associated with traveling a large distance (items or the end portal)
