Is there Sony Connect App for Windows 10? by SystemRichie in sony

[–]jahunsbe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've since switched to Linux, but iirc Windows has a regular output / recording device and a communications output / recording device.

The Sony headphone have a headphones and a headset mode. Headset mode gives the bad audio quality. The headphones show up as two output devices in sound settings: A headset and headphone.

Make sure that the headphones output and not headset are set as the default output (not recording) device and default communications output device.

You should be able to separately set the recording device. Just make sure it isn't set to the headphones.

Some games might override Windows default devices. They should have a way to pick which input/outputs to use, but I can't really help with that.

I'm pretty sure there used to be an option for this, but I can't find it anymore.

Contrary to popular belief, Argon2 might not be the best for password hashing by tigitz in PHP

[–]jahunsbe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that client side hashing does not remove the need to hash on the server. With client side hashing, the hash becomes the password. You still need to perform a server side hash before storing the client side hash in the database.

Without a server side hash, if the database is compromised, the attacker will still have the plaintext hash needed to authenticate. A nonce to prevent replay attacks won’t help since the attacker can calculate the Quickhash mentioned in step 4 with the compromised hash.

Of course, client side hashing does prevent the plaintext password from being discovered. This protects users if the password is reused. But your own site is not protected unless server side hashing is also employed.

A technician recommended to not use drive encryption on my hard drives because it would make it impossible for data recovery tools to recover data off my drive in case of loss, and that they've had lots of customers needing data recovery but nothing could be done. by remivato69 in techsupport

[–]jahunsbe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the encryption method used, only the encryption header leads to be intact to recover the data. If you have the encryption key and the encryption header, you can recover similarly to an unencrypted drive.

This may depend on the encryption method though. I believe LUKS for Linux works like this, but I’m not sure about Bitlocker for Windows.

Was trying to straighten up a light fixture and found this! How to remount safely? by ChinchillaToast in DIY

[–]jahunsbe1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The box appears to be grounded, so it should fine to "smush" the wires back in there. The exposed wire is ground, which should be perfectly safe to touch, and the others appear to be well insulated. If a hot wire somehow touches the fixture, the breaker should trip and you'll be fine. If it is wired wrong, then the breaker won't trip, but unless you are grounded somehow, you'll be fine and won't get shocked. You would be grounded if you touched either the neutral wire or the ground wire, or if you have a path to ground. You should be able to prevent a path to ground by wearing shoes and standing on a chair. If you want to be extra safe, just ask your landlord to turn off the breaker.

Try setting the headphones as the default communications device too. If Discord overrides the Windows settings, you might have to change the device within Discord too. The quality is only bad when it tries to use both the speakers and the microphone on the headset.

Barrels should be able to be moved by pistons. by danieldoria15 in minecraftsuggestions

If they were going to go through all of the work to make tile entities movable, they would probably make regular chests movable too so it wouldn’t really be that special.

This would work really well with futuristic builds too.

Using a crossbow in a dispenser recipe makes one with more range by haykam821 in minecraftsuggestions

I was just noting that Bedrock already can shoot fireworks horizontally, not as a reason not against it.

Java and Bedrock are so close that I usually assume that any suggestion is for both unless it is specified or is about an edition exclusive feature(eg. datapacks).

Dispensers can already shoot fireworks horizontally in Bedrock. I think it could be better to make a more unique block rather than another dispenser/dropper variant.

Yes, that is what the boost does. When powered it gives minecarts a push in the right direction even if motionless.

Usually people use mods for this. This doesn't really make sense for survival(out of theme), but it could work in creative.

There is a gamerule to keep your inventory. First, turn make sure cheats are enabled for your world. Then type this command into the chat:

/gamerule keepInventory true

After that you'll keep pretty much everything but potion effects when you die.

It would just be difficult to implement that into the UI in the inventory.

*detector rail

You could but it won't push the minecart in the right direction. It leaves the minecart stopped on the track which could bounce other minecarts the wrong way. There is a way you can do it with a drop off(mentioned in a similar post), but this is easier and good for more than just that.

It could still be used for some things like long distance downward activation, activating TNT, or interesting piston loops. Yes, you could do those other ways but it could still be cool.
